Ithaca Model 600 o/u?

I have an auction bill for Saturday, September 10th that advertises an Ithaca Model 600 o/u 12 ga. My research says it is an SKB model 600, with a value in the $600 range. Ithaca also imported Perazzi's, but with my luck, this won't be one.

Anybody have opinions on the SKB o/u's?

This is a farm auction, so I probably wouldn't go over $300. That ought to scare away the "Daaang, that's a bunch for a shotgun" crowd.

IIRC,Larry, the 600 was a Miroku. Good shotguns, just like the Winchester 101s and Browning Citoris also made there.

Well worth $300,even if it never saw Italy.

Gunshop dude advised me last weekend that being able to remember "Ithaca-Perazzi" marked one as a baby boomer.

Update:

Looked the gun over good this morning. It had some condition problems. The screw holding the trigger guard had been bunged up badly, the barrels had some pitting on the outside (had to look closely), and there was a gap in the receiver/barrel fit that looked like someone had dropped the receiver on concrete (or hit it with a hammer) when the gun was apart. The gun showed a lot of wear from firing, but little from carrying, so I assume it was someone's skeet gun.

Chokes were Imp Cyl and Mod, fixed. Ejectors, non selective trigger. The gun also felt heavy and clunky. Dave, I think these were built at the SKB factory, not Miroku, the quality just isn't there.

I downgraded my high bid to $200.

The gun sold for... get ready for this:

Geeze, you would have thought I had learned my lesson about guns at farm auctions.

Competition using $$

I am always amazed about what people do at auctions. I have sold a lot of stuff on Ebay and some of it went for more than you could buy it new. And that doesn't even take into account shipping charges. The competitive nature of auctions, even on-line types, is amazing.

Sorry, most models were made by SKB. I happen to like the SKBs I've shot, but I never said I was picky.

Miroku did make some Ithaca shotguns. Wish I knew which ones.

I'm not picky either, Dave. Heck, the last shotgun I bought was a Baikal (which I like), but in the $675 price range a guy can find a used Citori once in a while.

I gave this gun a close inspection, and though it closed tight and opened and closed easily (like my Citori), the internals just weren't as nicely fitted or designed.

I would have bought it at $300. I just couldn't justify anything higher, especially with the condition problems.
