I know this is a long shot but... I recently inherited this Ithaca Model X5 .22 LR. from a deceased Step-Father. Not sure where or when he got this rifle but on the stock someone notched out a small rectangle and inserted a brass name plate with small matching screws that reads: D.H. SHORT LCDR USN
I'm sure D.H. SHORT was the owners name and LCDR USN meant he was a Lieutenant Commander in the US NAVY. I thought about selling this considering I have no use for a .22 But then I started thinking how cool would it be if I could track down D.H. SHORT or a descendant of his and just see if they would like to have it. Anyone have any idea where to start? How to look up names of those who have served in the Navy?

By checking online this model of .22 was made from 1958-1964
