It's a Lee Hand Priming tool

Need help chasing down some shellholder inserts and a spare tool for my old Lee priming tool.
The one Lee Precision offers now is called the"auto-prime" and has a primer tray attached. I use it for those calibers not covered by appropriate shellholder in my original tool.
The original tool is made in dull finish white metal, you manually feed each primer into cup. The threaded shellholder inserts are letter stamped. True, manual feed is slow but you can't beat the positive feel and control of seating depth.
I want a spare tool as backup. I've heard that the tools can break (used mine since 1985) and haven't found anything better.

If anyone peruses the SINCLAIR catalog you'll see a very similar hand priming tool for a great deal more money than this tool sold for.

Presently have 8 shellholders and hot for 3 more in B, M, and N.

Any ideas folks?

Just a thought, but the shellholders for the lee trimmers are also threaded. Maybe they're the same?

I think you are talking about the old tool that came with the "Target Loader" that was made by Lee Custom Engineering. They have been out of buisness for at least 25 years and Lee Precision doesn't have any parts or information on any of that type of product. If my recollection is correct, Richard Lee co-owned that business before he left and started Lee Precision as it is today. Other products from that era were the hand Lee Loaders for shotgun shells.

If you like the Lee single-primer tool, look for a K&M primer. Same good feel, only about $40ish, and it takes Lee shellholders. I've got Lees, a K&M, and a Kneuler (precursor of the Sinclair).

As per your previous post on this subject I have the same tool with shellholders L and F. This would include a large primer rod w/spring and what I think is the small primer rod. Here's another thought: Get rid of that potmetal p.o.c. and buy yourself an RCBS hand-priming tool that uses "regular" shellholders and isn't made of potmetal.

yeah.. throw away that perfectly good tool and buy something more expensive.. cause somene on a message board told you to. He's probibly thrown a a dozen or so away, because you are not a man till you brag about throwing good tools away.

Hey guys, all I want is a tool that continues to do a nice job like my old Lee does.
By way of "by the way", I've used the RCBS tool and was equally impressed to it's similar tool which I do own; the LEE AUTO-PRIME.

Thats why I want to keep rolling with the original LEE item.
You just don't get the seating feel or depth control you get with my LEE.

I wore out a Lee auto prime hand tool in a few years of reloading. The thing stretched somehow. I started getting high primers, couldn't figure why until I inspected the tool. I bought a C press and the auto prime tool that fits on a press to do my priming. The Lee C press was dirt cheap! I didn't like that primer tool anyway. My thumb would be sore as heck after priming a few hundred cases.

I don't know what I did with that thing. If I could find it, you could have what I have in the way of shell holders, but I might have chunked it. The press loading auto prime uses the normal slide in case holders that work with the press. It's a pretty heavy duty rig and shouldn't break anytime soon and my thumb appreciates the leverage of the C press.

The Lee Auto Prime is the only Lee product I own. Mine has been doing just fine for over 20 years. (a little lube goes a long ways) I bought mine before RCBS even thought of making one. While I understand it's not RCBS like most of the equipment I have, it has served me well enough to help me make a High Power master.

I too have had an used them for may , many years. Never let me down. I have them, along with my 16 LEE Case Trimmers, 2 Primer Pocket cleaners and two Inside Neck Brushes in an old wood ETALON Micrometer box. It's my case prep box and everything I need is in there.

I like the the tools and try to keep an eye out for any I don't have when I go to local Gun Shows. I picked up the MN holder at a local Gun Show last month.

I know just what you mean about the LEE tool. I try to scrounge at gun shows and the like to fill out my supply of inserts.

Funny you should mention seating problems with the LEE AUTO-PRIME. I occassionally get that symptom too ---aggravating .
Didn't have it with the the RCBS; but I didn't use it that much at all. Felt too much like the LEE AUTO-PRIME. just enough to be a turnoff!!!! :banghead:
When I first started reloading, I used the RCBS accessory to put in primers with my RCBS JR. Works fine BUT again, I really do like the seating control and feel you get with the old hand tool. Also lets me tell if primer pocket is "loose". If any of this peaks your interest; you can see the similar tool sold by SINCLAIR.COM but very very expensive!!

Sorry about the slow response to your input. I think there's a thread of truth in what you say. I seem to recall something about that when I called LEE to inquire about accessory inserts.

Yes, a very old thread. But I have one of these old hand priming tools, but can only find the shellholder for 30/06, etc.

I need one for belted magnum cases. Anyone have one for sale?
