It's been a long day so I think......

Shooting clears my brain and helps relieve stress because I have to slow down. Pause. Take a deep breath. Think of nothing else but this one shot. Think of the mechanics of it -- how I hold the gun, how I stand, how I line up the sights, how I gently squeeze the trigger, how I re-align my sights after the shot breaks.

When I shoot, shooting is all I can think about. I can't think about the stuff that's bugging me, about the rotten kids and the annoying traffic on the drive to the range, about my sick grandma or anything else. I can only think about shooting itself.

Shooting is pure concentration on a difficult physical skill, while being calmly conscious of my breathing and what my body is doing.

EXACTLY!
;)

Thanks for putting that into words. Well said.

Cslinger, if you are impressed by a shotgun..

Try a nice clean piece of paper, a 12 gauge... and shoot... a SLUG!!

:D You will be amazed at the size of the hole.. :what:

You know of all the firearms I have had the pleasure of shooting, full auto, .50 BMG, classics, antiques, M203s.......and so one, I have never ever shot a slug through a shotgun. Never.

Mmmmm mental note, buy some slugs.

cslinger make another note make sure the choke is out of the gun before you bruise your shoulder !! or atleast gut a butt pad ( not for your rearend either !

Yeasterday (4-3-03 ) I was supposed to go shooting with my buddy and would up cutting down trees instead !!! how did that happen , I liked Yoga master pax's way of stress relief which is true ..

Pax, what you said!

... a lot of people think shooting is a way to get your "aggessions" out ... It's not like that at all.
You really have a way with words, you said it all just right.
I concentrate so hard at the range, everything else fades...

Mastrogiacomo, I thought that was "Girls just want to have funds!" ;)

Recoil Therapy...thats what I need. The last trigger time I had was a .17cal air pistol. Thats like getting a cracker when you wanted a " Dagwood" style ham on rye. I think I'll go repack my range bag. It needs some of the real stuff in it!...weekends commin' up.
Mark.

Yep, drive out to the middle of nowhere, and let loose. Taking the Mosin out this weekend in fact for some "recoil therapy". :D

Every friday night, my girlfriend works until about 11pm. so every friday night, i get to go to the range, usaully all by my little lonesome self, and shoot to my heart's content. i just bought a bunch of ammo really cheap for my primary carry gun, and bought a new gun just for this type of therapy. the Kel-Tec Sub 2000 is VERY theraputic in this respect. and even cheaper than a couple hours with a real therapist! shootin' stuff is a great way to blow off steam. then i go home and clean guns while watching some comedy movie to put me in a good mood. if i didn't get a chance to do stufff like this, i'd go crazy. and when i can't shoot, i fly. just as much fun but way more $$$.

Bobby

For serious practice:

Glock 22 and a bunch of ammo.

For competition:

.45 ACP Nat'l Match, Ruger Competition .22--and a bunch of ammo.

For just plain fun, making lots of noise, blowing big fireballs, putting huge holes in paper and unbelieveable stress relief:

Winchester Defender 12 Ga., with Hogue Comp-Stock and 3" magnum slugs, or--

.45 Colt 1917 New Service or Ruger Vaquero, with 230 grain slugs on top of a healthy helping of Blue Dot.

Ooooooh!! The fireball!! The thump! The roar!!

The grin, ten miles wide!!!!

Oh, yeah! :D
