So it's been a long haul but I called the gunsmith and my 5 1/2" SS Ruger Old Army is done and will ship back this week. The very well known gunsmith is an expert with ROA's. Unfortunately he suffered some pretty severe health problems about 7 seconds after I shipped him the pistol. Needless to say it was much too long a wait but I just had to realize that his health is several orders of magnitude above my need for my gun. This is one of the chances you take when dealing with a one man custom operation. I called every week and in all honestly the last few weeks I was calling less to pester him than to see how he was doing.
Anyway, he's shipping it this week and I'm really looking forward to seeing it.
I had an action job done, the forcing cone opened and the barrel face trued up. I also had him remove that idiotic warning label.
Add to this the Treso nipples and the blind screw faux ivory grips I added, I'm hoping it's going to shoot and look terrific...and it was dam* good before! To me, the 5 1/2" stainless ROA is just the best looking pistol ever made.
I debated having the cylinders deepened but decided against it. With 210 gr BigLube bullets and 35 gr of 777 it just flat roars as it is.
I have the 150 gr BigLube bullet mold and I'm really, really curious to see if it's as accurate as the 210 gr.
Hmm...I forgot to ask him if the springs he uses are stainless steel. I still want to clean it in the dishwasher...doing that just cracks me up. It's hysterical doing it and even funnier how well it works. It's just mind boggling how clean it gets. It's not like my wife ever uses the dishwasher. She cooked once, spring of '82 I think it was. Many lives were spared when she stopped.
