Yesterday, I dropped by my local shop/range with my fiancee to pick up a Hi-Point 995 carbine. (save the lolz, pls) and after I finished the paperwork, my fiancee turned to me with a big smile and says "So does this mean you're officially a member of the Black Rifle Club now?"

Now, let me explain something - this girl had NEVER shot a gun before meeting me. She had never even SEEN a real gun up close and in person before meeting me. She now owns her own S&W 642, and easily out-shoots me with my MK III. I know it might be cheesy, but every time she says or does something like that, I feel this ridiculous surge of pride.

She's definitely not as much of an enthusiast as I am when it comes to guns, but like I said, it's the little things she says or does sometimes that really remind me why she's so awesome. :)

I dunno - guess you had to be there, but it made me happy.

My girl is turning out to be the same way. It's a beautiful thing, really is a good feeling when they can out shoot you with your own gun.

keep that one. by the way congrats on the engagement, I just proposed as well.

Happy shooting with your fiancee

Will have to agree with 1911Tuner on that. I actually own one, camo stock; it is an extremely accurate little gun. Surprisingly it has a "punch" for a 9mm. Fun Gun though...congrats on the engagement, as well as her out-shooting you!

That's what I hear too - I've consistently read posts detailing how well the carbines hold up, and how well the shoot - and for a fellow who's as broke as I am (college student + fixed income = bargain guns only please!) it's hard to argue with a pistol caliber plinker with a lifetime, no-questions-asked warranty that only costs $201.35 OTD.

Thanks for the congratulations on the engagement - we've actually been engaged for awhile, just waiting until I finish school to actually get married. She's a great girl, and even if she hated guns, I would still love her just the same.

Incidentally - one of the reasons I picked up the Hi-Point yesterday rather than sometime in the future, is that this weekend I'll be taking a friend of ours shooting for the first time, and I wanted to have something besides my P22, MK III, and the fiancee's 642 to try out. The way I figure it, the 995 is fairly straightforward in terms of operation, the ergonomics aren't horrible, the sights are basic enough for a new shooter to get the hang of, and the recoil from the ammo won't knock her on her butt (or cost me a fortune, lol).

That, and I rather like the idea of all the folks at the range shooting their tricked-out fancy-pants AR's and AK's looking over at how much fun we're having blasting away with this el-cheapo "budget gun".

Chupacabrah - Haven't gotten a chance to shoot it yet. I was gonna try to go today, but between studying for my final tomorrow, and the range closing at 5 P.M. on Sundays, I wasn't able to make it. I'll have a range report this coming Saturday, though, once I get back from the range with my friend who will be shooting for her first time.

I think you should get her one in .40 cal so that you have a matching set.

Nothing says cheesy like couples who go out in public in matching attire. The same could be said for couples who go to the range with matching guns. :D

I have a Beretta Storm, Kel-Tec Sub 2000, and a HiPoint 995 9mm carbine.

Besides the Beretta being more solid and the Kel-Tec being able to be folded, they ALL are in the same group as far as reliabilty and accuracy. The only other downside is the hi caps are easily available for those two and not the HiPoint.

These are the second gun I pull out when teaching newbies (after a .22). The peep and post sights are great and I have yet to have a bobble on any of these carbines. The Beretta probably has the most rounds through it (many thousands) but the HiPoint is a close second. The Kel-Tec has a tubular stock that is hard on the face when shooting so that doesn't see as much action, but it does get hauled around a lot. People get a kick out of me taking it out of the backpack I'm carrying.

I think she'll have to buy her own, lol. I love her, but I have a hard enough time affording MY guns. :)

Well, we did have matching his & hers mohawks at one point. That was before she got the job at the courthouse, though. :p

Kar-El - That's interesting. I've had my eye on a Kel-Tec Sub-200 in 9mm for awhile, but they seem to be rare as hen's teeth around here lately. In fact, I wasn't expecting my local shop to have any in 9mm when I went to check the other day - they've had a single one in .40 forever, but that's it. When I went to check, they had TWO 995's, so it must have been fate. The Sub-200 is most definitely on my list, however. The Beretta, not so much.

I think it is so funy that you can buy an alternate stock and it looks just like the Beretta.

Congrats on the engagement.
