I've gone to the dark side....the shame of it all

Today I found the ONLY Glock to fit my hand. A Glock 30 in .45 cal with a grip extention. Felt perfect, which is odd for me since I have never had a Glock actually "FEEL" good.

Anyone have these and love 'em?

Hate 'em?

KB one?

I would love to hear about it.

Hrmm... well, I know a couple guys that own a G30. I don't generally have a problem with Glocks, and on paper, the G30 looks like an excellent carry piece, but it is just SO thick in the grip. I can shoot one just fine, but man is that thing think.

Not made for human hands...

I could never get a Glock to feel comfortable in my hands--and I have fairly large hands--so I assumed they were designed by aliens.

Hmmm... in my camp "the dark side" means a 1911. I went there... and never looked back. :D

There are a number of people (me included) who say that the Glock 30 is the best and most accurate of all the Glocks. They fit a lot of hands.

I have a G30 and small hands, but it fits me perfectly. It's the most accurate Glock I've shot, and I've shot the 17,19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 29, 30, 31 and 32/33. :) Also the 35.

Over at www.glocktalk.com (where you won't get hate mail for owning a plastic gun) they have an entire club for G30 owners (the Big Dawgs Club) as well as forums for everything else (.50 cal, revolvers, rifles, shotguns, etc) not just Glocks.

While we're waiting for Little Loudmouth to join us...

I prefer the Glock 30 with 9 round factory mags and Pearce base-plates. These are the mags that fit flush (with the factory base-plate), like the G29 10 round mags.

I hardly ever use my 10 round mags, though Pearce base-plates make them more comfortable than they are with the factory base-plates.

What, MrMurphy?

You don't have any trigger time with the G-18? For shame! ;) Btw, as you doubtless suspected, yep, I'm the same guy that was ribbin' you over at GT about the Commanders.
Back on topic, I can get my hand around the 9mm/.40/.357 frames okay, but not the supersize .45/10mm models. Have shot the models 30 and 36. They did seem accurate in slower deliberate fire, but using a timer and going from the holster didn't go so well. Also not a fan of the built-in finger grooves, so hunting up used second generation Glocks is more to my liking, models 17/22 being my faves.
The grip angle of the Glocks (as compared to 1911s) will keep the fantastic plastic out of the #1 spot on "My favorite handguns" list, but they're up in the top 5 anyhow. Just been too stubbornly dependable to ignore.;)

Picked a lightly used one up lately from a Portland OR. police officer.

I'm starting to take a liking to the gun, now I just have to figure out a way to CCW it.

The only thing I hate is not being able to shoot my lead SWC reloads through it.:D

I've got one and it will be my "combat" pistol from now on. It is small enough to be practical, but it shoots like a big pistol. The extensions make all the difference in the way it feels and night sights help it alot too..... quite an improvement. I like the fire power to size ratio also, you feel like you are holding something serious and on the range, you find out that indeed you are!!!;)

Resistance is futile.:D

While I've never particularly cared for the girth of the G21 or G30, it wouldn't be the end of civilization as we know it if I had to carry a G30. I wouldn't even mind using it as a uniform service weapon, relatively speaking.

Well, okay ... the green framed G30 I saw in the case at the local Police Supply store yesterday looked more like one of the toys I had as a youngster, but that's simply a personal aesthetics perspective.;)

I was shooting my G26 alongside a fellow from another agency who was shooting a G30 recently, and when we exchanged pistols both of us agreed that the G26 was easier to shoot than the G30, especially when it came to accuracy on some 6" swinging plates. Not enough to "convert" someone from .45 ACP over to 9mm, but enough so for it to be noticeable to both of us ... and most especially to him.

Hey, I'm a .45 ACP owner and shooter from wayback ... particularly 1911's of various sizes ... but when I decided to add another Glock to my personal collection it was a G27, and not a G30. That was simply because I'd decided the overall ergonomics and size of the G26 was so pleasing for me , and the G27's I've handled and shot were almost as pleasing as the G26, that I thought the addition of the .40 S&W version would be a nice addition.

Now, if only they made a G26/27 version of the .45 ACP ... (and no, the G36 doesn't feel the same to me) ... I'd be interested.

Damn, does that mean I might feel tempted to try a .45 G.A.P. if it's chambered in a G26/27 frame? :what:

If so, I may not feel like admitting to it for a while ... :neener:

Now, someone with hands like "an ape" might very well feel the same about a G30 as I do about the smaller G26, and that's fine ... No reason why we both can't find something that "fits" us, right?

Now, I do feel that the recoil characteristics of the .45 ACP, combined with a polymer frame and the slightly reduced slide mass and faster slide velocities of a G30 might create some occasional functional concerns for some folks ... think "limp wristing" ... but proper training can often mitigate and resolve those sorts of issues. I know a small group of L/E folks that apparently switched from issuing G30's over to G23's for similar reasons.

It's always something or other ...

Love my G30; I've only had it for a year and have put about 1500 rounds through it, all 230gr ball ammo.

I use Sidearmor holsters; I have a IWB and a OWB.

I also have Mepro's, 3.5lb connector and the extended slide stop.

The gun is extremely accurate; I would say due more to the gun than the operator.:D

I also have the 26, which isn't bad. Plinking 9mm is much cheaper than .45acp!

27 may be next on my list since my holsters for the 26 would work with the 27.
