In the search for another center fire rifle (sold my SKS 2 yrs ago) that is suitable for targets, plinking, deer and smaller hogs, I have decided upon the .243 Win. It comes in many bullet weights, for many different targets. It's plentiful. And, it seems to be pretty cheap.
As far as the rifle, I have decided on the H&R Ultra Varmint in .243 Win, in synthetic. It's got a bull barrel, which is fluted (drool) a stock I like to hold, it's got a bipod adapter, a rear monopod, and a wide forearm, all of which I love! and it feels compact/tight (hold one to know what I mean).
My question is, aside from a bipod, what else would be some good accys to go with it? In terms of glass, I'm thinking of something in the 6-24X range, with a (diy) sunshade.
Also, any thoughts on the rifle? I've heard of it's great (for the price) accuracy, and of the forearm pressure issues, but I'm considering sanding the forearm down at all barrel contact points, and installing small I-beams the length of the forearm for additional rigidity.
