I got a new to me cylinder for the iver johnson .32

It also came from a .32 with a 3 inch barrel and I got the barrel with it but dont plan on using the barell

The cylinder does not look as pretty as the cyl it came with but that one has a crack. I want to see about fixing it.

So at first I couldn't get the new cylinder to fit.

Then i took the spring and auto ejector from my old cylinder and put it in the new one.

The ejector would not fit perfectly. So I just used the spring and holder from my old cylinder on the "new" one and I got it to fit into the gun.

With the cylinder it came with the cylinder free wheeled. Both directions.

This one free wheels one direction and the other it kind of locks up before it rotates. Trigger pull is slightly harsher with the new cylinder but do able no prob. I oiled it up a bit.

I'm really disappointed the transition wasn't silky smooth. Is there a better way to just fix my old cylinder it came with? I'm no metal expert.

It just seems off with this cylinder. It cycles and rotates but it does not freewheel both directions. Is it possible the one it came with is not supposed to go both directions? It does seem a bit worn.

Thanks all!

U can see this cyl. Is slightly less pretty.

After inspection I'm thinking the one It came with was improperly loose.

When turning this one clicks into place and catches when backward. The other free spins but since I put this one on, when I put the other back on it somtimes clicks and makes more attempt to stop backward rotation. Somtimes it does catch the back rotate.

I hope the case is that the new cyl is workin more properly

No, you won't find anyone willing to repair a cracked cylinder, it's too much liability . likely to install the replacement cylinder fitting will be required, that's gunsmith work. If you end up with a misalignment the results could be very dangerous.

It's just a cylinder off another iver johnson. It didnt fit at first cause the fitting it came with was stripped. I used the fitting I had it works well.

The difference I notice is that now when rotated by hand each chamber clicks into place, and it stops itself from rotating backwards.

It's still nicely in time

I dont know if this is true, but I heard these iver Johnson dont fire if the cylinder is even slightly misaligned

If you have never done it, look for DIY nickel plating videos. That'll bring it right back in line wight he rest of that beauty after a proper stripping & polish too - to the cylinder. Sometimes, you can get a jeweler to do it cheap enough to not bother yourself.

Don't be surprised that new parts don't just drop in. That's why they employed a regiment of gunsmiths at the factory... and not just at IJ. And BTW it should freewheel in just one direction (clockwise), not both.

That's excellent news considering the other cylinder only goes 1 direction. It fires I'm very glad
