IWB holster belt concearns............

I just ordered a Milt Sparks SS2 from brownells, this is the first time that ive bought a IWB holster and the first time that I will be concealing my firearm. During my research on holsters ive noticed that belts pop up often and take a pretty big role in itself..

Here's the deal, im 6'1 255 lbs. the weight mostly shows in the gut area. I wouldn't say my gut hangs waaaay over my belt but it does indeed rest on my belt with a slight hang. So for the reason that my gut hangs a bit over my belt I've always preferred stretchy elastic type belts, to me the stretchy belts are much more comfortable then a hard leather belt digging into your belly when you sit down.

Now I realize there are many people on this forum that don't have this problem, so id like to narrow down the replies to the people that actually relate to what im saying as id really like to pin point the proper belt to get.

So my question is, have any of the overweight group on here found a remedy for this issue? I'm guessing a stretchy belt is not going to cut it with the new holster im getting and that im going to have to figure out something soon. Maybe the reason I don't like hard leather belts is do to only buying cheap walmart brands? I dont know.. But to me it seems like any hard belt would be uncomfortable? right?

I'm 5"11" and 245 lbs.

IWB holsters in the conventional locations just don't work for me, because I have ...ahem... "overhang" almost all the way 'round. Even though I'm left handed, I use a right-handed IWB holster and locate it in the small of my back - the only place where the dread overhang disappears. In my experience, a stiff belt is necessary, unfortunately.

In truth, I usually use a Maxpedition "Fat Boy" (hah) shoulder bag and don't even bother with the IWB holster when I carry.

I wear a large cover garment and suspenders so I'm able to leave the belt a little looser.

That said I'm also realizing that I need to lose the weight instead of just working around it

True. Food is good though :)

Food is good, it's the excess of calories beyond the daily burn rate that is not good.

Exercise is key to weight loss and maintenance of that loss. Calorie counting is also key. Weight loss is done best between 1000 and 2000 calories, depending on the level of activity and exercise, which if it is high, then the calories should correspond.

Fewer than 1000 calories a day puts the body into a starvation mode, and you don't burn as much fat as you do other tissues, including muscle. You don't want to burn muscle, because muscle eats calories when you're at rest.

more muscle = more calories burnt while chillin' on the couch.

And don't skip breakfast - have 1 egg or 2 to jump start your metabolism. Protein with every meal to control insulin and prevent spikes and cravings.

Lots of water, no soda, no caffeine but occasionally (so it still works, and isn't just an addiction).

On this I lost 10 pounds in May, but I think I lost more than that in fat because I'm building muscle.

The Month around law school finals just killed me. I should have prevented this weight instead of having to take care of it now...

Loosing weight is easy if you have will. I went from 295 to 215, lost my job and went back up to 255. I know this was unhealthy loosing 5 lbs a week but that's just how it worked out for me. The only reason im gaining it back is because im eating very badly and not doing anything for exercise except for sex. :)

the men ive seen that are overly plump by a bit usually wear pants that in order to fit thier gut have a lot of excess room in the thigh/front pocket area.....

seems like these slacks or casual pants would take most any compact auto or wheely without the printing other folks get.

Use a good belt and buy one size larger pants to make room for the IWB. I have some overhang and this way I can comfortably carry at the 4 o'clock position. I carry a Glock 19 with a Galco Scout IWB holster. Your untucked shirt or a jacket will cover up everything.

For me the one size bigger pants is not necessary. In fact the fat protruding from my rear love handle soaks up my P229 quite nicely.

I carry in a Galco Skyops at about 4 o'clock. I'm 6'5" 225, not quite portly, but I have softness in the right places.

Edit: and I wear regular leather belts, not gun belts.
