Hello!

I have 2 different IWB "tuckable" holsters. One is Galco, and the other is from a local vendor. Both of them have steel clips, and BOTH of their clips keep bending on me. :banghead: I've gotten replacements a couple of times thinking I'd just be more careful, but that's not working anymore.

So... Has anyone else encountered this problem? What have you done to solve the problem, and were you satisfied with that solution?

I see that there are polymer clips available, although I'm not sure they would work with either of these holsters--I might just need a new holster if I go this route. Should the polymer clips solve this problem for me?

Thanks for the input.

"tuckable" Might be the problem I have several holsters IWB with the spring clips cheap to expensive and I have never ruined one. I ve been known to sleep on side pistol is on before.

No issues with any of mine (several makes). However, the leather snaps on my pricey High Noon Snapper have failed me several times.

This is why , in my opinion, leather loops are much better than "clips". I have never liked "clip on" anything. All it takes is a shopping cart to rip it off of your belt (or turn you around). After losing one nice Benchmade knife nothing I own has clips on it any more.

The only two metal clips I like and trust come from High Noon Holsters and Crossbreed.

I'm not sure if you can order just the clips from High Noon. I've never tried.

But you can order clips from Crossbreed. $10 will get you two clips and everything you need to mount them to your holster. Some have an intense dislike of the size and big cross on the Crossbreed, but I don't tuck, so no problem for me.

I have been thinking about trying out an ulticlip. I have not used one and I am not endorsing them, but they look interesting. I have never had retention issues with a normal clip but I like that this one grips your pants instead of relying on a hook catching the bottom edge of your belt. That seems like it would keep a lower profile and be less prone to catch on things, and maybe be less noticeable.

I once had an instructor tell me he had a drawer full of holsters. I never quite understood that and then one day several years later I realized I had the same. All are good holsters and all claimed to be just what I needed in terms of comfort and so forth.

Before I found the one or two I like and can live with, I bought a whole drawer full getting there.

In most cases, you get what you pay for. I use custom IWB clip-on holsters from Bullard Leather in Texas and Kirkpatrick Leather. The clips are high quality and have never given me problems. I carry every day and everywhere. My daily carry is a BHP in a double clip IWB from Bullard. I am very active, and it has never snagged, shifted, or whatever. Sometimes I forget I am wearing it.

I have a number of IWB holsters that use clips, many of them from DeSantis, and haven't had any problems with them. I'm pretty sure they're made out of polymer and so far they've held up just fine.

I bought a Talon IWB holster a couple years ago.(It has turned out being by far my favorite holster.) I've bought and tried many holsters over the years.

First time putting this brand new IWB on the metal clip bent. I contacted Talon and they knew there was an issue with some of the clips being made incorrectly. They were in the process of having new ones made and were more than willing to replace the defective ones.

I guess it was about a week later I got the replacement clip from them which solved the problem.
It was very easy to change. I think most of these clips are a standard size and probably made by the same Vendor.
Waiting on my replacement not knowing how long it would be until I'd actually receive it, I took the spring clip off a Bianchi Professional IWB. It was identical in size to the one used on the Talon holsters.

I had some steel clips rust up on me, but never bend. I ordered replacements, and have been fine ever since.

Check out Hidden Hybrid Holsters. They sell metal and polymer replacement clips for their products, which are excellent IMO for their size and quality/price ratio. There's a chance their clips will fit your holster.

On a side note, when I ordered the replacement clips, I also ordered a set of hardware since I didn't think the clips came with any. As it turns out the replacement clips come with a new set of hardware, and the owner saw my order, and took the time to call me and let me know. He fixed my order for me.

I don't think there are that many folks who would have taken the time to do that. Most would send you your $4 set of screws and been done with it. And granted, it was only like $4 I saved as a result, but the fact that he took the time to make the call was what stuck out in my mind and showed he was a stand up guy. So the next time I need a hybrid holster, if he makes one for the gun I'm interested in concealing, I'll be buying from him again.

How are they bending? Are they getting snagged/caught on something?

If that's the case, try putting the clip between your pants and a belt and keep it close to a belt loop.

ETA: maybe have this moved to the holster sub-section

Mine bent (sprung out) as I was slipping it on. The first time putting the clip between my belt and pants I could feel it give. Apparently they weren't tempered correctly.
In my case the seller knew there were issues with some of the newly made steel clips and was getting that resolved. I have 3 others of these Talon holsters and there hasn't been any further issues with the steel clips.
