I bought, regretably, a rather cheap IWB holster(Blackhawk) for my XD-45.
Althogh it's stated to be the correct holster for that gun, every time I tried to draw the weapon, the holster came with it.
Seems the clip is not anywhere near strong enough to retain the holster on my belt, which is an Uncle Mikes.
I'm wondering if perhaps theres makers that have some sort of positive lock arrangement to hang onto the belt, as opposed to relying only on the friction of an open-ended clip?

Absolutely, they're called leather loops and most top quality IWB holsters have them. I gave up on clips years ago and use only holsters with loops, though there are some quality makers who offer holsters with good clips that apparently work well. You'll never regret buying a good holster, it's a good investment.

You'll never regret buying a good holster,

True.
I winced at the price I paid for a Bianchi for my S&W 34-1 recenty, but, when it arrived, it was a beautiful piece of workmanship, wonderfull fit.

Good advice, thanks!
