Has anyone ever tried this? I know that it is kind of gangsta but maybe it is more comfortable????

and a LOT more dangerous if you intend to keep your gun chambered!

I never carry without a holster because I always keep a round in the pipe... It is how I carry on-duty, and it's how I carry off-duty.

Yes, but it would be with a revolver (heavy trigger pull) or in a bersa .380 hammer down but one chambered.

It's called "Mexican carry" and it isn't a smart method of carry except in the movies.

You have no way to secure the pistol and keep it in the same position, it can slide rotate, or fall out -usually when you least want it to. You also leave the trigger exposed, increasing your chance of accidental discharges.

In many areas with concealed carry permits, part of your permit mandates that the concealed firearm must be in a retention holster.

If you still think it is a great idea, then use something like a Barami grip for it.

Yep.

Contrary to those that whine that they don't make holsters for women, and body types for men too , this carrying without a holster is not a new thing.

The holsters were made into the clothing.

There were, and still are, certain circles where a holster will get one made.
One does not use a chrome Cross pen, have certain hair styles, wear certain clothing, carry themselves a certain way, and even using perfect, English, grammar and spelling will get one made.

You don't carry certain makes and models of gun, nor calibers.

i.e. Pit boss for a illegal cock fight ring.
No holster, .22 cal rim-fire to shoot knees of those that cannot pay the gambling debt.

i.e. You are going to see the fence, that likes expensive stolen goods, cocaine and scantily clad young girls.
You do not disrespect the man, with a a hard chrome 1911 with custom 14 yellow gold stocks.
Still as long as he and his boys can see your Steel Combat Commander with Ivory Stocks - you are cool.
Just cut the line of coke with the 18 karat yellow gold razor blade with a diamond set in it, worn around your neck and get the young ladies happy and then get on down to business.

This is not armchair, or net ninjas.
These folks will hurt you, maim you, or flat out kill you.

There are those raised with 3 rules of gun safety, do not whine, do not be boorish, don't shoot yourself or anyone else.
These folks color outside the lines, and still stay within the law, though it gets a bit gray at times.

These might carry "without a holster", but they have a reason, serious reasons, and holsters were made into clothing.

No.
I do not recommend folks carry w/o a holster.

Yes, some folks really want to know, and some really need to hear some truth.
Much of what is shared is not from experience, instead parroted information to get attention and feel matriculated into a community.
Then we have the groupies looking for a guru, and a guru looking for groupies, and the circle.

Don't carry without a holster.

Trust me, playing the game is not anything like TV, Movies, Video games or books.

It is called blending in, and giving the perspective needed to do what needs doing for the good guys, and staying alive and keeping all your body parts at the end of the day.

It ain't paintball, nor pretending to be a mall ninja, or armchair quarterback either.

It wears on a person, and grates at the inner being.

Don't carry without a holster.

IWB w/o holster can too quickly become IPL (Inside Pant Leg) carry, although I'm merely speculating.

I'd rather not be caught in a situation in public where I have to run to the bathroom holding myself "down there". :uhoh:

Most of the time, NOT a good idea.

As "sm" related, sometimes you have to go holsterless to 'blend in to the crowd'.

I learned about IWB holsterless years ago with one of the Crossman pellet revolvers that resembled a .357Mag...it kept sliding down one leg.

It would make for a real bummer of a day if you had to fumble around for your 1911 when you REALLY NEEDED it to be out and gnerally pointed in the direction of some miscreant(s) of felonious intent, instead of IPL, pointed at your foot.

I carry both the Keltec P3AT and the P-11 "holsterless" IWB all the time, and have never had an issue with either. They both have the belt clip to keep it from sliding downward, and the pressure from my belt holds it in place. Though not my prefered method of carry,...it IS effective,...and I do consider it to be safe. I too have had a pistol slide down my pant leg more than once over the years. The side clip makes the difference. I would not seriously carry in this fashion without it.

I would just keep the search up for a nice holster that fits your frame and body properly. There are many custom manufacturers so they can fit something directly to your gun of choice and style of carry.

I carry my KelTec P11 with the factory belt clip. Works fine, more comfortable. If it was a Glock, there'd be NO WAY I'd carry like that though.

I won't mince words. It's stupid to IWB without a holster or clip of some sort.

The weapon is not secure whitch makes it both unsafe and nearly useless for responding to a threat.

I have done it. A 1911 was the only gun that I felt comfortable doing it with as most other guns tended to slip up or down and never felt secure. It really is not a good way of carrying.

The only handgun I'd consider carrying without a holster or a securing clip is a NAA Mini-Revolver with the hammer down in the safety notch, and then only in a pants pocket with nothing else. Even then, most of my "business casual" pants have a change pocket deep down that serves to keep the Mini-Revolver more-or-less upright.

For anything else, a holster or case is mandatory. Even if it's just a sleeve that prevents anything from working the trigger, that's enough to be the minimum.

I think that most of these people are talking without having tried it.

I tried several IWB holsters and they were all uncomfortable, especially the Sidearmor ones.

I carried with a permit for 6 years "mexican" style with a Glock 19 with a round in the chamber. I cinched it down tight with my belt. Never fell out, never went off. I even ran with it sometimes and just placed my hand on it to make sure it didn't fall out.

Is it perfect? No. But it works if you are safe about it.

I don't recommend it, but I did do it for a number of years.

I now carry in a IWB that I found that was comfortable.

If you're willing to spend a few hundred dollars on a decent carry gun, up to a couple of hundred more to qualify for your carry permit, and then a not-insignificant amount on ammunition, why in the world would you skimp and carry without a holster?

Decent holsters can be had for well under $100.

I have slipped my .357 into the small of my back IWB many times without the use of a holster. I've never carried it there for any longer than it takes to pick up a few groceries or go pay for some fuel. It was comfortable and stayed in place just fine. This is with my Taurus Tracker .357/ 4" bbl and a 7 round cylinder. Extended carry is always with a holster .

i've done it with my sigma 9mm on occasion; i think it's ok as long as it's not for extended periods. i wouldn't do it all day, but for a walk to the corner store and back why not?

I've done it, a few times, and I have had it go down my pants leg -- fortunately without an audience. This is much better -- the ClipDraw. I used it for a year or so.
But now I have a real holster. It's better yet.

I think we have all shoved a pistol into our waistbands for convienence, for a moment, to go to another room, etc.

However, few if any here or anywhere would suggest that it be your primary method of legal CCW.
