For those keen on Dragunovs, combloc marksman rifles or just guns in general I’ve put together a video on youtube of my Dragunov Tigr with full SVD length 620mm barrel as obtained from Izhmash and available here in New Zealand + some pics below.

Part 1 – A look at the rifle, field strip and a look at the action

Part 2 – Rotating bolt system and optics

Part 3 – Ammunition used, shooting and groupings

I recommend viewing on the high quality option if you possibly can.

The Dragunov Tigr is a tough weapon with a strong brute of an action that will eat whatever you put through it, an ability handy to have in NZ where no lightweight ammo exists unless you handload (which I don’t yet). Ideally the Tigr is designed to shoot Russian 152gr 7n1 sniper ammunition and other such lightweight ammo, however, it still shows promise with even non-match commercial hunting ammunition, but don’t be silly enough to expect miracle groupings when you’re firing uber cheapo ammo.

enjoy ;)

Hey, is that Juba? Kidding aside, that is an awesome rifle, not very common either

Great pictures and videos of a rifle not often seen in the U.S. (I have no idea why, there's no shortage of Izhmash Saigas here). Also love the homemade "shooting bench" (ironing board and deck railing).

I gotta say, though, that Tigr is one loud sumbitch. You must have scared away all the hobbits in the shire!

you got that right, it puts out a massive deep thump too which doesn't come through with the audio. Properly inserted earplugs are a must.

Very well done videos! I very much enjoyed the cows and the "opening of the surplus ammo tin" montage. :)

I'm not sure why I don't see more of those around in the states. It might make for a fun and more affordable substitute to the scoped M1A.

Your next goal: a FIVE-shot group under one inch at 100 yards. :)

I've just recently found out my Tigr's barrel twist rate is 1:320mm or 1:12.6 inches which happens to be the original twist rate of the SVD. I didn't know much about twist rates, as I'm fairly new to shooting really, but found it interesting that the SVD's twist rate was altered to 1:240mm or 1:9.4 inches when the need arose to use heavier ammo such as armor piercing rounds which require a tighter twist to stabilize. The tighter twist comes at a cost of lightweight ammo accuracy. So I'll be on a quest to come up with some lightweight ammo and see what the Tigr can really do (and some of those 5 shot groups!):D
