Its an interesting design ... I understand that there won't be any way for these to be imported into the US, but is there any way an enterprising American company could buy the plans from IZHMECH and build them stateside?

I understand that Clinton banned the import of Russian firarms, but what about Russian firearm designs?


I'm thinking an American made MP-412 would sell.

The idea of a top-break DA/SA revolver that shoots from the bottom cylinder (and a poly frame too) would just be neeto.

Dude I don't even like rubber/plastic grips on a revolver much less the whole gun.

Wheel guns are steel and wood as far as I am concerned. Ok maybe aluminium, but that is as far as I go.

well the poly frame isn't what I like the most, I like the bottom line barrel and the top break ... I'm thinkin' the same pistol could be built on a nice steel frame with wood stocks like God and Sam Colt intended ... then maybe we could see a .44mag and .454Casull version

Its more of a legal/import question.


Is it legal to build a Russian designed firearm in the United States? Or is even the import of the design illegal under Clintoon's import ban?

That's incorrect. Saiga rifles and shotguns are being imported in significant numbers. Remington is importing Russian guns. Izhmash target rifles and pistols are being imported. Tula .22 rifles are being imported.

I'd buy it if it was made, reasonably accurate, and cost under 400 dollars. Russian firearms in my experience are exceptionally robust, and I will gladly take a tough as snot design over something pretty.You do not use a Corvette to plow a field.

Guns from Russia are in a "special" category for importation. Other countries have a list of "sporting" criteria to comply with in order to import weapons. Russian weapons are allowed in on a case-by-case basis BY NAME from a list made by the ATF. If that specific weapon is not identified as being importable, then it isnt. As far as I know, that rule only applies to Russian weapons.
