J.C. higgins 20 gauge SxS

i recently inherited a jc higgins 20 gauge 101.7 and i dont have a clue of where to find the serial numbers on it. any ideas?

Not on the top tang or under the barrels? Proofhouse shows several 101 being made by Savage.

Sears 101-7 is a Stevens 311, no serial numbers means it was made prior to 1968. Stevens used a letter date code on their double barrel shotguns from 1949 to 1970. I don't know if they used it on their store brands or not but I see no reason they wouldn't. A small circle with a letter and a number in it, behind the hinge pin or in front of the trigger guard. A=1949, X=1970, O and Q not used.
