I recently had a J.C. Higgins model 20 given to me that was in near perfect shape except for a missing trigger assembly. I have since acquired the parts and now have a functioning shotgun. The question I have is "Should I cut the barrel, install a sidesaddle and red dot, and make it a HD/SD shotgun or sell it and buy a 870 or another 500?" Note: I have a 500 Mossberg that belonged to my grandfather, and I do not wish to modify in any way. Therefore I ask of the infinite wisdom of the elders, what say you?

I am fond of the J.C. Higgins model 20. Please don't modify it. In 1977 I bought my Grandpa's model 20. It is one of the best shotguns I have ever handled. Sell it if you have to but don't cut it up. If you do buy a new one check out the Mossberg 590A1. The 870P is also a great gun for SD/HD.

The High Standard model 200 shotgun is a great gun, don`t cut it fix it & check into a Mossberg.............
