I have inherited my grandfather's .12 guage shotgun. It is stamped "J. Stevens Arms & Tool Co." on the top of the barrel. On the side of the barrel it is stamped "Electro Steel*Choke Bore." There are no other markings on it. What I believe to be the S/N is stamped on the trigger guard under the stock. It is the letters "W D" and beneath those letters is either "1 1"; "7 7"; or "V V". The numbers (or letters) are hard to make out. Wood is in good condition, but on right side of stock by barrel it shows a small crack in the stock. Barrel shows some signs of pitting. It has been kept in an open air (but dry) area for the last 15 years. I do not plan on selling it.

I am interested in the history of the gun and it's approximate worth.
Thanks.

By the name on the barrel, it would be IIRC (with no reference materials at the office) between 1886 and 1920.

For some reason I want the say the Electro Steel marking narrows that down to between 1900 and 1920.

A pic would help, because right this minute I'm drawing a blank on early single-barrel guns.

JohnBT,
Thanks for the information. It is being stored at my dad's house, out of state, right now. Sometime in the future when I can get a digital picture I'll post it as a follow up. I appreciate the info you gave me.
