Brady died in Alexandria, Virginia, from undisclosed causes, at the age of 73. His family announced his death on August 4, 2014.[13] On August 8, 2014, his death was ruled a homicide[2] caused by the gunshot wound he received in 1981, approximately 33 years after the fact. A spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office stated prosecutors are reviewing the ruling and that his office “has no further comment at this time.”[2] A Brady family spokesperson could not immediately be reached for further comment, adding, “Jim had been suffering health issues since the shooting.”[2]

That's the quote, folks. Sounds like some confusion abounds. Re-read the last sentence.

Kinda makes you question the "firearm death" statistics we see released by government agencies, doesn't it?

My Dad lost a leg and suffered a host of other wounds in the Korean War that caused him a great deal of problems throughout his life. He died in 2010 at the age of 79. By this logic shouldn't his have been ruled a combat death?

Sounds reasonable to me! Him and every other wounded vet throughout history.
