ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) - The owner of two Kentucky theaters has refused to show the new Jane Fonda film "Monster-in-Law" because of the activist role the actress took during the Vietnam War.
Ike Boutwell, who trained pilots during the Vietnam War, displayed pictures of Fonda clapping with a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft crew in 1972 outside the Elizabethtown Movie Palace to show his disapproval. The marquee outside Showtime Cinemas in nearby Radcliff reads: "No Jane Fonda movie in this theater."

Both theaters are just a few miles from the Army post of Fort Knox, south of Louisville.

"I think when people do something, they need to be held responsible for their actions," Boutwell said. "When you give the enemy aid, it makes the war last longer."

Fonda has apologized for being photographed on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun, but not for opposing the war.

"Monster-in-Law" raked in more than $23 million last weekend as the top-grossing movie across the country, according to Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc. and Nielsen EDI Inc. In the film, Fonda plays Jennifer Lopez's villainous prospective mother-in-law, trying to stop Lopez from marrying her son.

Sal Mancuso, an Elizabethtown resident, said he personally thanked Boutwell for not showing the film.

"I think Vietnam veterans appreciate this," said Mancuso, who fought in the Mekong Delta during the Vietnam war. "There is no defense for what she did."

Boutwell also banned previous Jane Fonda films, as well as Michael Moore's film, "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Hanoi Jane should be banned wherever she goes. We should never let her forget what she did.

interresting choice of words. The guy didn't "ban" anything. He chose not to show the film at his theater.
Around here, he'd have protestors outside.

I still haven't seen any quote of an appology from her btw.

A retired CWO4 SeaBee friend of mine who retired in 1999 said there were still laminated pictures of Hanoi Jane in the urinals at the Gulfport SeaBee base. It's only a two hour drive. It might require some verification.

Give it up.

She was not exactly an angel, but carrying this grudge for the past 50 years isnt showing you out to be any better.

Also, lets not forget My Lai here. There are othere FAR worse American atrocoties that Ms. Fonda had nothing to do with. Face it - Just like this illegal war - the united states was invaved a smaller, weaker, nation to boosts its pofits and increase global hegemony. 50 or 70 thousand innocent American soldiers died in South East Asia, but about FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND INNOCENT VIETNAMESE CIVILIANS died needlessly because of the invasion.

And what about Cambodia? You can directly thank Henry Kissenger for the rise of the cruel and evil Pol Pot in Cambodia which systematically worked to death one third....2.3 million....of the Khmer population.

The Vietnam war is long over, but the wars for South east Asia are long from gone - gone from out memories, our thoughts, and our bodies. Whatever Jane Fonda did, it is entitely insignificant now.

entitely insignificant now.
Not so say - x thousand vets!! I think when you have seen your buddies die, things sorta ''take hold''.

I am all for forgiveness - cos I am basically a nice guy but - some things just will not go away. ;) I don't see anyone forgiving Hitler yet!

Oh.
I'm not sure I understand. Jane Fonda was an American "atrocotie" as My Lai was an American atrocity?

I'm not sure what you mean by "long from gone". Has a nice alliterative quality though.

If you mean what I think you mean, I can tell you I work in a place where the Viet Nam war has not left people's thoughts, memories or bodies. It's a VA Medical Center, and war's price is visible here. While these people are not fans of Ms Fonda's, she wouldn't be an object of discussion has she not gone on the media circuit in an effort to hustle her new book and movie.

By the way, for this country the Viet Nam War ended 32 years ago, not 50.

So why do you say that the film was BANNED!? Totally wrong there...

This theater owner doesn't want to show a film. He doesn't have to have a reason; it's his buisness. Now if the government was to ban it...no. That would be totally unacceptable.

drivel. :scrutiny:

I do not think that she has ever apologized for what she did, only for getting caught by a cameraman.

If she really wants to apologize I suggest that she do so in the manner of a Samurai (that’s Seppuku, or hari-kari to you non-cultured types). That would be sincere and perhaps even accepted.
Domo Arrigato,

Sure. Holding Fonda accountable for her treason is just as bad as her act of treason itself. That makes perfect sense.

Hanoi Jane has been banned in my house for 30 years. I will not allow that scum to be shown on my tv or anything else in my house.
For those of you who are to young to remember her treasonous actions, you should not comment on it.
I can honestly say the guy that spit on that slut will never have to buy another beer again in a VFW lodge as long as he lives.

The Grand Inquisitor

I can not believe what you just wrote. I was there (64-67).. were you? As far am I"m concerned I will "NEVER" forgive or forget what Hanoi Jane did.

unless I'm mistaken, ritual seppuku requires a buddy to deliver the coup de gras with the katana to the back of the neck after the tanto has been inserted the hard way into the torso and twisted.

so who's up for the "buddy" posistion?

U.S. CONSTITUTION:
"ARTICLE III. Section. 3.
Clause 1:

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. "

Okay. "adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort". It is about time we started prosecuting people again for TREASON. Let's also take a look at the editors of Newsweek. :cuss:

What a coincidence. I refuse to watch it for the same reason.

Too bad the thread wasn't:

"Jane Fonda Banned from entering the US"

But a big sweeping tip of the hat to said theatre owner for refusing to show 'Hanoi Janes" latest flop.

They say a picture is worth a 1000 words. Well here it is. I was not in the military, I did not go to SVN, but I cannot forgive treason.

Too bad this theater isn't in my area, sounds like it's definitely worthy of my dollars.
