I have a rifle that has the mum intack with one hole in the top ,It is 8th series made in Nagoya Arsenal, The barrow is 25'' long, It has a fixed peep sight on it ,The bore seems to check 3.9, It has ser. no. 45852 The stock don't have groves on the sides and where the strip is there is only one srew on it ,And a wooden butt plate. I have looked every place I can think of, I just want to know what year and cal. it is PS the peep sight blows my mine. Think you Jerry

It is probably a Type 99 Simplified or Substitute - a "last ditch" rifle. Could have been made as early as 1943, no later than 1945. I could not google any positive dates even by series number. Caliber is 7.7x58 Japanese.

I think that is what it is, I see no mention of a last ditch Type 38 6.5mm.

Pictures would be a big help.

I do not know what you mean by "the bore seems to check 3.9." Are you sticking a .30-06 wear gauge in it?

If it's a fixed sight then it sounds like a last ditch or trainer version. There were trainers for both the type 99 and 38, I believe.

If you can't find the info you need here I seem to remember there being active Arisaka sections at both gunboards and surplusrifleforums.com. I have a type 99 that was rechambered in .30-06. They are fun little rifles though mine hasn't displayed much in the way of accuracy so far.
