I am watching Jaws 2 right now. I see Chief Brody filling his hollowpoints with cyanide and wax. This reminded me of something. Considering the responses I got to the above said thread about filling in hollowpoints about a year ago, wouldn't this be dangerous? Increasing the weight of the bullet.

Also...on the side, if it is NOT dangerous, wouldn't it be an effective round? I mean you have not only tissue damage, but an instant poison going through the bad guys bloodstream to better insure stopping him. Wonder what lawyers would make of this?

EDIT: Well I don't know about filling hollowpoints, but one thing I see as DEFINATELY dangerous is his running across the beach with his gun waving at people all over the place waving at them and around them to get out of the water:eek:

I think it would be very difficult to convince a jury that you poisoned someone in self defense.

Filling Hollowpoints

For some reason I have always thought maybe a drop of mercury and then some parrafin wax for sealer. I think the mercury would do some wild wound channel with the heavier weight of the liquid metal?

What the mercury filled bullet idea misses is that mercury amalgamates with lead.

Fill a bullet with mercury and the bullet will combine with the mercury into a thick liquid.

I think that the small quantity of wax & poison wouldn't weigh enough to effect the bullets flight path or spin... I also don't think the front of the bullet would see the kind of temps needed to vaporize the liquid, but I do think either the the wax would melt, or the liquid ( or at least the bulk of it ) would be gone before hitting the target...

along a similar line...

I watched a demonstration in science class ( a long ... long time ago ) of a small grain of sodium placed in a beaker of water... it reacted violently, with litteral mini explosions untill the grain had "rusted" in the water... it didn't take long, even clear back then, for me to wonder what would happen, if that "grain" of sodium was placed / melted into a hollow point bullet, & shot into animal tissue that is mostly water... maybe melting a grain of sodium into the hollow point of a cheap low pressure round, then some sort of epoxy coating over the tip to keep the sodium from drawing moisure from the air...

...BTW...

I'm quite sure if you ever shot anyone in defense or otherwise, with any cartridge modified to make it more effective, the lawyers would have a field day with you... & I'm sure that if you added a few grains of bullet weight to any of the lower pressure "cheaper" cartridges from any of the major manufacturers, it would not be a problem for nearly any modern fire arm...

Well....

I like to take a hollow point and file an X in the top, then fill the hole in with mercury, then sodium, then a kitten, then a rhino horn, then cover it with baby seal skin. I put this all in a press and then skoosh it down real good.

Then I coat the bullet in Gelinite and then teflon. Now I drill out the base and add a rocket engine and a single Pez from my Batman dispenser...

Now, THESE are THE bullet of the century.

I thought the cyanide in the bullet was a bad (hollywoodish) idea.

One, how much cyanide for a 24-foot shark?

Two, is bullet wound a good delivery method for poisons like cyanide?

And three, would the cyanide stay in the hollowpoint or get dispersed
by centrifugal force into the atmosphere the shooter and any bystanders
have to breath?

And do not try any movie car or motorbike stunts either: the laws
of physics do not apply to CGI but they have not repealed the law
of gravity for your car or bike yet.

Wow! I didn't know we had the designer for EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEME Shock ammunition here. Welcome!

Back in the 80's

Back in the eighties in London, Bulgarian intelligence stabbed a guy with an umbrella that injected the unfortunate fellow with a little BB-sized projectle filled with some really dangerous poison. I seem to remember that the man survived.......but only just. He was in the hospital for weeks. I know this sounds very James Bondish fantastic but I read about it in several places. The Russians used to let the Bulgarians do a lot of their "wet" work.

This is mentioned in a review of Jaws 2 at Jabootu.com, just go to their reviews section and scroll down till you see the movie listed. It's nice to see a movie review written by someone having at least basic firearms knowledge. He's even got a speedloader picture in the review.

Also note later in the review he points out Brody's unsafe use of his revolver.

When you want a laugh, read his very simple review of Jaws 4. He doesnt even use words so much, mostly just some screenshots.

The best idea is the Ricin. Castor beans, castor oil!? Clever ideas. Keep emceeing.

Well….Time to give my mother-in-law, her castor oil for her irregularities and a nice rub down with it for her arthritis, so she can enjoy that 300,000 dollar house (all paid off) she lives in.

I've heard some mafiosi would dip their bullets into garlic oil. The reason being, that if the bullets alone did not kill them, the garlic entering the bloodstream would. I figure just the actual tip, i think garlic oil would mess with powder and primer.

How commonly available is cyanide?

Can I buy it at Wal Mart?

Is getting self-defense advice from a fictional Hollywood movie a good idea?

What happens if I spill a little cyanide on me, or breathe the fumes while filling my hollowpoints? Will self-defense even still be an issue?

Is this thread a joke or are you serious?

I am hoping this is far from serious as if not there is much potential illegality being considered.

Hollywood can make anything seem possible - and some of what they do is or would be - illegal in real world.

I very much doubt Pot' cyanide is at all easily obtainable and if obtained for industrial use would I am sure require signing of paperwork for any and every quantity purchased.

I mentioned earlier and repeat - leaving aside speculation per Hollywood stuff - any alteration to bullets to add toxic substances or explosive substances etc is gonna be a legal minefield.

The intention on THR is to avoid illegal matters. We have had some fun here but this is as far as we need go!
