shootemup, your J.C. Higgins Model 20 was made by High Standard , a.k.a. Flite King model.

The Model 20 was cataloged beginning with the Spring Summer 1948 Catalog and continued until the Winter 1962 catalog. There were a number of evolutionary changes over those 15 years. The versionyou are inquiring about is probably from teh late 1950's 1957 or 1958 would be my guess. By December 1956 High Stadnard had started putting anasembly date code on the Sears guns - two letters on the barrel near the reciever.

The Model 20 was in production for 12 years before the High Stadanrd Flite King was inbtroduced but the early Flite King is a derivative of the later model 20's. Shortly after teh Flite King was introduced, the Model 20 evolved into the Model 21 .
