I was digging through my closet yesterday looking for a gun case. When I found it the Model 29 was inside. I have no idea where it came from or when I got it. Anyway, it has a crack in the grip just behind the receiver.

I'm thinking I can counter sink a couple of SS screws through the top then plug the holes with some walnut plugs, sand it down and refinish it. I'm in the mood for refinishing anyway. Perfect timing.

If the crack is not oil soaked, it is hard to tell from pic, then simply clamp the crack closed and open up the inside area around the tang (areas that don't show when assembled) a little back into the crack. Stay inside the outer walls! THIS is a place for the dreaded Dremmel! An 1/8" cutter is good here. Then open the crack just a bit with something to wedge it open and work Acraglas epoxy with no flocking back into the crack and let it fill the inletted holes. After it is all well coated, clamp it closed again and wipe off the outside. You will have little to deal with when you refinish. It is a quick and efficient repair IF there is not oil in the crack. If there is, screws may be best. A *slight* amount of oil residue can be removed with toluene prior to gluing.

If toluene is hard to come by, test some denatured alcohol in a hidden area to see if it will damage the existing finish. If not it will clean the oil from the crack pretty good. Not bad idea to test any cleaner on the finish before use.
If you decide to use pins or screws use brass.

Thanks David R.

Just so I'm clear, by "flocking" you mean bits of cloth or other foreign material, Correct?
