I started reading Col. Cooper's column in Guns & Ammo when I was 12, and for the last 16 years, I have loved his comments. Recently, Cooper's Corner has been about the only thing worth reading in it.
May God comfort and bless his family. We will miss him.

"When beggars die there are no comets seen;
The heavens themselves blaze forth the death of princes."

Julius Caesar (II, ii, 30-31)

Probably wrong, but it seems to me that he the last of the "larger than life" gunners. Keith, Skelton, Jordan... Cooper.

Never met him. Probably wouldn't have gotten along with him if I had. And yet Art of the Rifle was my bible for many years. We are, indeed, diminished by his passing, and incalculably enriched by his having lived.

Thank you, Colonel

We should all remain thankful for the likes of the late Colonel Cooper, a man who readily defended us, then enlightened us on how to defend ourselves and others. May God bless his family!

His book To Ride, Shoot Straight, and Speak the Truth is one of the best books I have ever read and I am sad for its authors passing may he rest in peace

Colonel Cooper served his country with distinction. He led the way for many of us to be better gun handlers. I shall always be grateful to him.

May God bless him and his family .

God Rest the Colonel's immortal soul. I thank God for his time on this earth and his service to his country. For us I am thankful for his timeless writings. Tim

Farewell, Sir. I'm grateful that your calling was to teach. We've all profited by your efforts.

I just went out and fired the .22s, the fighting pistols and the M1: 86 rounds to rejoice in your 86 years on Earth. Let those already in Valhalla stand up and salute.

Well Done, Marine!

So far, the only book of his I've had the opportunity to read is The Art of the Rifle. I plan to correct that soon. Wish I could've met the man. Perhaps I will still get the chance, Lord willing......

Jeff Cooper will never truly die. It is only that his job here is done. He is not the last of the Great Gunners, he insured this fact, by helping to make more of them to *Carry On*.

I am 55 years old. I remember reading him a long, long time ago. He struck a chord then and has rung the Bell ever since. He was The Uncommon, Common Man! There are few of his quality around.

Go with God, Jeff Cooper! Til we meet in the End, Sir!

Sad news, indeed. :( RIP, sir.

It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather, we should thank God that such men lived. -- George S. Patton, Jr
Pax beat me to the quote, and I wonder where the next Col Cooper will come form

Rest In Peace, Mon Colonel!

Enjoy your rewards in Heaven Colonel Cooper. Your memory and good works will continue to serve us down here as long as this country holds your values and remains literate. You showed us how!

Imitation being the highest form of flatery, the Col. and his doctrine will live on as long as the grass will grow and the sun will shine. He is trully one of the men who shaped my life and views of the world around me. God bless and pray for others like him to follow

"...when we reach heaven's scenes, we truly will find it guarded by United States Marines." - Ronald Reagn

I hope whoever was pulling guard duty by the Pearly Gates had their stuff together yesterday afternoon. I'll bet there was one hell of an inspection conducted when the new CO showed up.

Colonel Cooper,

I found you early in life and became a better man and citizen because of it. Thank you.

Rest in Peace
