I have a friend who owns a Jericho, a Glock and shoots a CZ as well, all in 9mm. He claims that the Jericho brand is better than the other 2 brands generally and that it is more reliable, works better, shoots better.

Can this be true?

Thanks,

Svetlio

The Jericho is a CZ copy with a finish that isn't as durable. The CZ, IMO, is a better pistol for the same price.

Could his Jericho be more reliable than his Glock or his CZ?

Sure.

But it can't be any more reliable than my CZ PCR. And it can't be any more reliable than either of my G23s. And it can't be any more reliable than the two CZ75B SAs I've owned. All of these have been absolutely 100% reliable.

Generally, CZs and Glocks are pretty much as reliable as guns come. If his Glock and his CZ are prone to failure, he should consider either using better ammo or sending them back to the factory to be fixed.

Well the jericho is a good copy of the CZ.......can his be better?.....sure!
Is it generally better.......nope! The Glock and CZ are paramount for reliability and so on.........
Just my opinion.............Shoot well.........

what would prevent it from being true?
That is the question... There are hordes of very satisfied CZ and Glock owners. And most of their experiences are overwhelmingly positive. Just the sheer numbers are against the Jericho... I mean, there are almost definately more Glock 17s that have never failed than there are Jerichos that have ever been made.

Like I said... Sure... His experience with his own Jericho may be better than his experience with his own Glock or CZ but I doubt millions of potential Glock 17 or 19 owners would find a Jericho CZ clone radically more reliable... And I doubt that most owners of CZs would cut their 25 yard group sizes in half by changing to a Jericho.

I have been told that in Israel, where the Jericho is finished (frame and parts are made in Italy) that the Jericho is well liked. However, the CZ-75 is liked much more. The Jericho is a fine pistol (or the Baby Eagles, which are the same). But, to call the Jericho a better brand than CZ or Glock is too far a stretch.

I would not put down his claim so readily. The Isrealites sing the Jericho praises often and even now that the G17 is in use in Israel there are still quite a few who still swears by the Jericho.

generally I would say most modern firearms are reliable, from Glock, Sig, Beretta, CZ, et al. To say one is more or less is just a personal opinion, one I think would be difficult to back up either way.
That being said there are guns that are problematic, but they usually ones which are poorly made.

Check out http://p201.ezboard.com/fczechpistols82792frm35. This will take you to the CZ Forum - CZ Clone Club. A lot of good information there.

The Jerico is a CZ clone (as is the Baby Eagle and many others). What most of these clones have in common is base manufacture by Fratelli Tanfoglio Sp.A. of Italy. The base components are made by Tanfoglio - with final fit & finish done by the manufacturer whose name is stamped on the gun. They are all basic CZ designs though - which is to say a basic Browning Hi-Power design with double action trigger & internal slide rails (like the Sig 210).

I have a late 1980's Tanfoglio CZ clone, and can tell you that it is a very nice handgun. A completely different operating system, grip and so forth from the Glock - though almost identical to the CZ.

If what you want is a good out of the box defence type gun - go with the Glock or CZ (keep in mind the different operating systems). If you want something with a lot of after market accessories, a CZ clone will be better - namely a "Witness" stamped gun.

I suppose I can contribute my 2 cents here. I have had several 75s, and liked them fine. They were accurate, reliable pistols. I have had quite a few Tanfoglio clones that were in general problematic and varied in quality. However, the IMI products are not in that category. I suspect Tanfoglio's contribution is simply "in-the-white" components that IMI finishes. I had several of the Baby Eagle configured pistols with slide mounted safety. Each was tighter in fit than my 75s, had better triggers, and fit my hand better than the 75 (which was comfortable enough). Not liking the slide mounted safety, I set about on a quest for a frame safety gun in the Jericho 941 configuration. After months of searching I found a new one, and snapped it up.

This pistol is a tack driver, 100% reliable, had a great trigger, and the full-length dust cover soaks up what little recoil the 9mm has. I had my smith go over the trigger further and now it breaks like glass in SA, with a short DA stroke that is quite smooth. I had plenty of Tanfoglio full cap mags from previous guns I sold, but added a CZ-75 slide stop so I could use CZ mags as well and have the slide lock back on both types. I prefer this pistol to the 75, although both are fine weapons. I also like the polygonal rifling of the Jericho as it is a bit easier to clean. Now 9mm is far from my preferred caliber, so the Jericho is a range toy for me and also suits my wife's small hands. Still it is a lot of fun to shoot. Neat looking too, if that counts for anything.

Were I to pick from your three choices, any are good. If I had only one 9mm I would probably go with the Jericho. The Glock 17 would be second--maybe first if I could have it worked over a little. I like Glocks with the right sights, a trigger job (they can be made to fell darn close to a 1911), and perhaps some other tweaks. The 75 would only come in last due to slight differences between them. Really it is an excellent pistol. Any way you cannot go wrong.

Have had many Tanfolgios and several CZs. Have shot Glock for years. Won't own Glock, carry CZ. I firmly believe CZ is a better gun than Glock - personal opinion, of course...:what:

Have heard good things about IMI. Owned a Glock 27, liked it but not enough. Traded it towards a Colt LW commander. But still have a CZ-75 compact, and sometimes carry that- it fits fine, goes bang every time, reasonably accurate. Its got Soul- its a keeper.:D

I'm pretty much in the same boat here. I've been playing around with 2 Baby Eagles with the poly frames and I do like them. I've become accustomed to the Beretta style slide mounted safeties and they can become familiar. However the frames themselves have a plug where you can see that the frame mounted safety use to live there. The way the Eagles are set up, there is a deep pocket milled into the slide where the safety now lives. This pocket could catch a lot of debris and muck if you are using this gun out in the field. I think it is less ideal, but it hasn't actually been a problem so far. But then again I'm not living with the guns in field conditions either.
If the Jericho guns are better than the CZ's and the Glocks, then why are the Israeli forces dropping the Jericho (a native israeli gun) and going with Glocks now? There is a reason for that. Perhaps it is an economical one.
Agreed, the Jericho is a fine handgun and second only to CZ as far as 75 style clones go. But I'd rather have a CZ.

Thanks for your comments!

Maybe Israeli army picked Glocks, cause they are easier to use (SfA vs. DA) and maintain? I don't know. In the 1980 US Army picked 9mm - a strange decision in MHO. For me 9mm is a duck caliber. So I do not take Army choices too serious.

Another question - is a polygonal barrel better in terms of ballistics, velocity etc.? Does it make the bullet fly faster?

Thanks.

I can't comment on the Glocks - I don't care for the looks of them and they don't fit my hand very well, so I can't compare them to anything else. I have a CZ 75B and a Jericho 941 FB, both in 9 mm, and I can compare the 2 I have as equal as to fit, finish, reliability, accuracy and, for me, ergonomics. I am extremely pleased with both and could not say that either brand is better than the other.
