Is the Baby Eagle an improved version of the Jericho?
I believe that Israel Weapons Industries is the maker of the Baby Eagle and Magnum Research imports them. How reputable is Israel Weapons Industries compared to say Heckler and Koch or Sigarms?

theyre suppose to be great. i bought one it had a malfunctioning problem and got my money back. i may buy another.

Frames and slides of the Jericho and Baby Eagle handguns are actually madfe by Tanfolgio of Italy, and assembled in Israel. Good pistols. Original CZ clones, they have evolved into thier own character.

I have an IWI polymer 9mm version of the Baby eagle, it has about 350-400 rounds with not a single malfunction. Its the only pistol that I have immediately been SUPER accurate with right out of the box with 2" groups at 15 yards. IWI acutually branched from the original IMI (Isarael Military Industries) with more solid and attentitive productions of all of they're product line including the Baby Eagle. I bought mine at Academy on sale for $499 a few months back.:)

So if H&K is rated a 10 out of 10, meaning they're the most reputable manufacturer out there, what would IWI rate?

i have a jericho .40 that i " stole" from a freind for $200. it's my only steel framed auto, and i love it.
as i understand it, the jericho is pretty much identical to the baby eagle,i forget, maybe a diferent safety lever or something minor, but still functionally the same. the jericho is what it's known as in israel, and the baby eagle (again, same gun) is imported here and sold by magnum research.
I.M.I. , now I.W.I apparantly, is as "reputable" as they come.
google "israeli jericho", there's a very interesting and informative page `that is near or at the top of the list.

A few things

The Jericho and BE are the same pistol. As far as tweaks,... no idea. Nothing wrong with the design, and the manufacture is usually quite decent.

Definitely not a CZ75 rebadged.

THey are most definitely a nice pistol. SIG and HK have better names (and marketing). Notice, I said "names" and not pistols.

Use your judgement. The Baby Eagle (Jericho, Uzi Eagle) is the sidearm of the IDF and Mossad. If you can think of a nation that has more occasion to battle test their weapons than Israel, I'm all ears.

Baby Eagle=11/10. I would take mine over any other 9mm.

^ I believe I heard the same thing that the Baby Eagle is no longer the main sidearm used by those groups. Kind of makes sense, as the BE is a bit on the heavy side for carry.

But still a great gun. Mine has been perfect through about 1,000 rounds. A very soft shooting 9mm.

It supposedly had nothing to do

Nothing to do with whether it's a decent pistol or not. The reason it was adopted in the first place was politics. It's just cheaper to buy Glock, and SIG.

Mine is an UZI Eagle, imported by Mossberg about eight years ago. It is not exactly a CZ clone. There are some differences. Mine was made by IMI and says "Made in Israel".

The pistol I own has been utterly flawless and has demonstrated so much accuracy and high quality that (for now) it is the only 9mm pistol I choose to own.

The original IMI Jericho 941 has one significant difference from the current production guns.

The original had a frame mounted safety that operated like the current CZ 75 pattern: up for safe, down for fire.

Original Jericho 941

Current CZ 75

The current production firearms have a slide mounted safety that operates on the S&W Auto pattern, down for safe, up for fire.

Baby Eagle

was the first gun I bought when I moved to Colorado. I buy and sell alot of guns, but I still have the Beagle. I have shot a ton of ammo with it, something near 5k rounds and found it to be naturally accurate and a lot of fun to shoot.

Just my $.02

I don't know about this

It was mentioned on

http://www.isayeret.com/

but they have since gone to a paid subscription. I also don't know how trustworthy that website is. It almost appears they are the official Israeli military website, but...

I am pretty sure they still use them, so the argument that if the Israelis use them,...they must be decent is still makeable. Supposedly they are not acquiring anymore, and are phasing in Glock and SIG.

I have no way to verify this, so consider it a rumour.

Keep in mind also that the Galil, while a decent rifle, is not the be all end all. In some ways the M16 is better. The Israeli's aren't perfect.

The Baby Eagle is a great gun, I have had mine for about 2-1/2 years 3000+ rds and only a few FTF, probably limp wristing. There is a great article on Gunblast.com about the BE. There have been numerous posts here on THR, they should help.

I used to not be interested in the IMI line. Then a gun shop guy badgered me into trying out one of their rental Baby Es.

I chose the 9MM and took a box of 50 Independance brand rounds down into the range. 20 minutes later I returned with the X-ring nearly all torn out and a smile on my face.

That thing was soooooo easy to shoot. Great sights, hardly any recoil and at 21' super-de-duper accurate.

When I have time I'll shoot it again at 50' (the max for that range) and see how it does.

At that range though, I need to use shoot-n-cs otherwise I can't tell if I'm even hitting the target.

It is a rental gun and has been (mis)-handled by many many people but it still runs fine. Though, of course, I'm not privy to it's service length or repair history.

I may. Just might. If the planets align correctly , buy one. Could happen. Maybe.

wanted to add...

That my IMI 9mm Eagle doesn't seem to care whether I shoot standard velocity 115-gr, or 124-gr +Ps, or 147s it still is uncannily accurate. It's always been a joy to shoot.

I've been so caught up with shooting some newer pistols that it has languished lately. I must rectify that as soon as possible.

If any of you find a great deal on one I suggest that you buy it.

This is my first handgun in 9mm. What I got then was the Jericho 941F with the .41 caliber conversion. This gun is so accurate and so reliable from out of the box. I must have fired 2000 rounds initially and no malfunctions of any kind. I just noticed that the finish is quite prone to rust. If you can find the nickel or chromed version, that is the one to get.

The DA pull is also very heavy on the Jericho. Other than the ones I mentioned, this is a great gun.

I was at the range today with another gun and afterwards instead of the 9 I decided to try out the .40 B-E.

Good grief, what a gun!

After getting dialed in I was x-ringing the shoot-n-c- target at 50' consistently.

At 21' it was like a frikin' laser beam into the X. The only shot outside the X was the very first DA shot.

Accurate, easy to shoot, limited recoil, very ergo, the slide releases with just a light touch and the lever is easy to reach.

This is one of those gems that does not get much in the way of press.
