The headline of this alert is a slogan being used by
the Vernon
Robinson for Congress campaign in North Carolina's 5th
District.
His entry into the race for House of Representatives
was lamented by
a Winston-Salem newspaper which said: "Jesse Helms is
back! And this
time he's black." Robinson gleefully adopted their
words for his
campaign.
That's pure Robinson. He thrives on confrontation.
Robinson is a Winston-Salem Councilman in his second
term. He has
aggressively challenged the establishment on a number
of issues,
including self-defense.
Robinson came from behind to win a plurality in a
crowded primary
field. He now is in an August 17 runoff election.
Robinson shocked the political establishment by
placing first,
defeating the presumed favorite, a millionaire heir to
the Broyhill
furniture fortune and son of a U.S. Senator with the
same famous
name. Broyhill actually came in third, leaving State
Senator
Virginia Foxx to face Robinson in the August 17
contest.
Robinson's opponent, Foxx, has been endorsed by trial
lawyers and
teachers groups, both of which are notorious for their
efforts to
undermine the Second Amendment.
Robinson is not getting any support from the
establishment -- no
surprise there. His campaign is a grassroots effort
fueled by
thousands of small-to-medium-size donations.
