I recently discovered that JG Firearms is selling Lee-Enfield Mk. 4 rifles for $130. I have always wanted one but they can be a little pricy. Does anyone know anything about this. Is it too good to be true?

they have went up they were $109 for the past year.

They are your basic #4MK1 everyone else was selling at $159 for the past year J&G got a decent deal from Century so had em for less, some folks have gotten really nice ones some have gotten beat up ones its the same anytime ya are buying sight unseen, pay the $10 handpick fee and ya might have a better chance at a nicer one, when in their shop they all looked decent all had the grooved upper HG some had rust some did not.............

Thanks for your help. It's always nice to have people who know what they're talking about!

I went to J&G Sales 2 weeks ago and picked out a nice one out of three. Good bore, nice wood, no rust, gobs of cosmo, so I wasn't sure I liked it until I got home and cleaned it.

The other two that I looked at were rather dry and had the beginnings of rust/corrison showing on the metal. They would probably clean up OK. None of them had the "flip up micrometer sight", all had the "2 aperture flip up sight.

I'd say that if you don't already have a No.4 Mk 1, get it, although condition could vary

I got one back when they were $109. The wood is in so-so shape (no cracks, but a few nicks and scars) and the finish is mostly gone and it had a little rust forming at the end of the barrel. The bore was ultra clean, though and shines like a mirror. She's a sweet shooter.

You can trust them they do a lot of business online and over the phone. Since they are located just a few miles from me I go there all the time. Its always better to go and pick one out yourself and look at a few, but if you can't do that then I would trust that what you order will be perfectly fine. All of their guns are checked by their gunsmith and they stand behind what they sell. Good group of guys (and gals) working there.

I think the surplus ammo deals at J&G are the best around.

I usually have to drive the F-250 to bring all the weight back up the hill.

Their deals on C&R, CZ, and "angry beaver" Century products are pretty good also.

They must be gettin low on the grooved HG ones now I guess, the last time I was there was last month went up and bought a hundred Rommy G AK kits as they got the best and if I go in person they let me pick through em to be sure all are unissued all pre-1983 kits etc... most of the Enfields in the back were still in the Century boxes with maybe 15 sitting out all of those were the grooved uppers I haven't seen any of their standard ones with the earlier micrometer sight so they might have sorted em to the handpick boxes (they have em devided up in the back room for handpick guns and the standard guns, all the Handpick ones simply have "hand pick" or "HP" written on the end of the box) thats why I suggest going for the $10 handpick option as they have already presorted those rifles that have something special about em into their own area.... Same with all of their guns they have two stacks of the boxes standard and Handpick, if your shopping for mosin M91/30s this is a must do option as if they find EX snipers they just got to the Handpick stack etc... depends on how busy they are when shipments come in though on how close they check for special features...

Is there something special or important about the grooved handguards I don't know about?

I made my choice based on condition.
