I read about using wax for gun finish protection, carnuba was often mentioned. Will Johnson Paste Floor wax also work and not harm the blued finish? Thanks, Bill

No, the wax won't hurt the blue, but you do want to remove any oil or grease before you apply it. I presume you mean polished blue, rather then blue over sandblasted steel. The wax won't hurt that either, but it'd hard to rub out. The advantage of Johnson's Paste Wax is that it doesn't have any abrasives in it as some automobile waxes do. You can of course, go over the wood too. Duck hunters have used wax in place of oils or grease for years, and it from one of them that I learn about this technique.

Johnson's Paste Wax!
:D
Man, I love that stuff!!
The smell reminds me of the good, old days. A very non-petrochemical smell. I bet you could eat that stuff with no ill effects.
Short yellow can with an old-timey lid, too.
I use it on wood grips and leather. I recommend it to customers to prevent rusting under handgun grips.
Several locals lube their belt-fed ammo with it. Almost necessary for the old MG08 and the MG42.
:)

I use it with good effect on nickel finished revolvers...that get holstered and carried, and the protection it affords has been positive.

I use it on stocks still, but I gave up using it on metal. High grade oil such as CorrosionX just outperforms it by a long shot. I still love the stuff though.

Then I'll do some waxing this afternoon

Thanks for the input. Yes, it is polished blue. Any suggestions on the best way to remove the existing oil on the finish? How about rubbing alcohol? Bill

Acetone will do a better job of getting the oil off. But make sure you do it outside and not around any source of ignition. Also keep it off your hands (wear gloves). It will pull all the oils out of your skin as well which could lead to various skin problems.

Waxed it and it looks pretty good for a 1934 model

Actually looks better than the coins made the same year. Thanks for all the input, Bill
