Has anyone here thought about joining HCI / The Brady Campaign / Million Mom March groups? I'll lump them all in together and call them HCI, because I think they have all basically merged. The main website is: http://bradycampaign.org/

My thought is this: HCI (including all the partner groups) is not very large and is in disaray. We vastly outnumber the gun-banning-activists in HCI. HCI's leadership (board and executives) is elected by members. It wouldn't take very many of us to join and get some more reasonable people elected to their leadership.

They could try the same trick on us: they could all sign up for the NRA. Great! They will have enough people to ... make no difference in the NRA's leadership! The NRA would go from 4mil members to 4.01mil members if they really made an all-out effort.

HCI's numbers are different. There are probably less than 100,000 active members of HCI and all its partner groups.

Has this ever been tried or proposed? Maybe I should join and run for a leadership position.

I think we would be better off letting HCI, et al, die a slow death.

Their membership is dwindling. Their funds are dwindling. No sense giving them hope by injecting some of my money into their accounts.

Joining HCI

I'd sooner slide naked down a razorblade into a pool of alcohol.

Joining HCI to fight FOR gun rights is rather like screwing for virginity, dontcha think?

Ok, you're right. They are falling apart, and we don't need to do anything to help them get to where they're going. The more legislative battles they lose (and they do keep on losing) the less support they attract, so they have fallen into a cycle of collapse.

I'm hopeful that we will soon have a Supreme Court that will finish off some of our unconstitutional laws.

No need to join, just contact them (a few times) and imply interest and let them send you mailings and stuff. It'll help them along financially to, hopefully, their eventual destination.

I think I would sooner join the People's Liberation Army, Hezbollah, MS-13 gang, KKK, and the Italian mafia.

As evil as those are, at least they are upfront about their nefarious plans.

I used to and probably still belong to a million mom meetup group or something like that.

They kept planning these meetups
I went to breakfast meetup at a Denny's near my house.

It was kinda nice eating breakfast all by myself

Would that thought be funny though? We take over, have a conference, run up the bill & bankrupt the organization. Hire a felon and appoint him as the director so he can steal all their money too. :uhoh: Imagine the news scandal?

OK, it's naughty and I'm sorry I thought that. :p Bad kharma.

I think you'd do better by joining your state (A)CLU and influencing them on RKBA issues.

Alan Korwin of http://www.gunlaws.com is a member of the national and state CLUs because he is a writer, of course. But he gets the chance to calmly (such is his nature) bend them toward a broader context on the 2A.

I've been on their email lists for a while. Both Brady and .50 Caliber Terror (also a group that doesn't do gun control anymore Join Together Online).

My take on it is that you don't know exactly what the opposition is up to unless you have a spy in their locker room.

>> Spies in the locker room....

Heh.

A few years back, unknown to each other, a bunch of NJ Coalition for Self Defense Guys signed up for an MMM meetup meeting that was supposed to be taking place. When they got there, the first thing they noticed was a bunch of their buddies. The second thing they noticed was that there was 5 NJCSD guys present, 3 MMMs, and 2 of their drag along husbands.

The NJCSD guys recruited the hubbies and 1 MMM, leaving 2 MMMs to stew in their own juices.

They also realized that had they withheld their participation, the meeting would not have happened at all.

Well, at least that anti-American cell was broken up.

1911ONR,

Hilarious website. I can't believe I haven't seen that before.

Thanks for starting my day off right.

I dont think he's talking about "joining" the organization. Think "hostile takeover". Get enough gunnies to join so that you can manage 51% of the voting members, vote to take out a big loan, give all the loan money and existing funds to the NRA, change the organizations charter to call for the destruction of all gun laws, then walk away from it.

Wouldn't it just be easier if we gave Charles Manson a carton of cigarettes and a couple penthouse magazines in exchange for his signature on Brady/VPC/HCI membership forms?

Joining their organization involves sending in money (dues) ... so until you actually get pro-gun folk into a majority of the organization you'll be dumping money into the enemy's coffers.

Plus I bet their bylaws require whomever is elected to the board to take some sort of "loyalty to the cause" type oath, and will have to be waist deep in the internal politics of the organization. In order for you (or anyone pro-gun) to get that deep into the organization would require them to be a mole for years ... all the while helping their cause.

nope...won't work.

Better off to spend that much energy working for one of the many pro-gun organizations out there.
