Joining the NRA

Well I though since I joined after starting to care about the issue say, six months ago it was the first sign of being a activism, but I am new here and assumed that I had goofed somehow.

:uhoh:

Me too. Since joining I have went to our State Capital for gun issues. Donate monies, and I have two letters published in the St. Louis Post Dispatch concerning the 2nd amendment.:)

Is not a sign of activism/activism topic? I'm confused.

The purpose of this forum is outlined here: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=270671

While joining the NRA might be construed a form of activism as described there, I think the goal is more clearly stated in this line, "Use this forum for campaigns, legal gatherings, letter writing, talking points to push on the media, and things of this nature."

Organizing or reporting the results of an NRA membership drive at your local range/club would be a topic for here. Reporting that you filled in a form and sent in your $25-35 dollars, not so much. It's still a good thing to do, but not really what this forum was built to facilitate.

Hope that helps.

Well It got locked so quickly that I failed to metion that the NRA member that got me to join also got another gun owning co-worker to put in the paperwork.

But the threat got locked so fast that there wasn't that option.

Jorg hit it. The stickies detail it further.

"I joined the NRA" threads are not activism because they don't present a course of action to influence larger numbers of people. We can each join the NRA/GOA/etc, but getting others to do things is what Activism is about. "I joined the NRA/GOA/JPFO/ETC. last week. I decided to see how many people I know I cold get to join also. I got X out of Y people I know o join! This is how I did it. ...." would be appropriate for this forum.

General Gun Discussion is a great place to announce that you've decided to join an RKBA organization. Activism is where you lay out your plan to get others to participate in protecting and restoring our 2nd Amendment rights.

Just be sure to add at the bottom of each letter you write which groups you are a member of, that will maybe get them to look a little harder and maybe take notice.
