I walked in to check out a DPMS Panther and Im now considering a top shelf Match-grade AR. A CTR-02 in .223 with one piece scope mounts and an adjustable stock.




The shop is asking $3000+Tax. Im sure it is a superb shooting rifle, but one thing that I would like to clarify is that one of the salesman's main selling points was that this rifle is going to be a rare item in the near future, and the price may go up to $4000 within a year if I decide I wish to sell it. Now, this could be typical salespitch B.S., or it could be very plausible in this day and age. I have the cash on hand to get it, and the shop has a 30-day return policy if I decide I don't like it(unlikely). I just want to consult the experts here before I go through with it.

So, eh, 2 main questions I'd like to ask.

Is $3200 a good price for a weapon of this quality, or would a custom built frankenstein AR be more bang for my buck?

Is this rifle actually going to take a big jump in price in a few months due to political and/or economical reasons?

Buying it with the intention of selling it sounds like a bad idea. There's no telling what the market will do, and even in the worst case scenario (as far as our rights go), I doubt a super high-end AR would be more desirable than a previously affordable AR.

You can likely get just as much enjoyment, and 99% of the performance out of a $1,000 rifle, easily. You could get a 16" AR carbine, a 20" flat-top, a scope, and trick them both out for $3,200.

If you're looking to make a profit, there are much better avenues to do so than firearms.

I agree with you there. I would only sell it if I had a guaranteed smoking deal lined up to replace it.

That is what Im wondering. DPMS rifles are on back order with hundreds in queue, and there is a lot of price-gouging going on with other sources. I could put in a custom shop order with DPMS and get the exact configuration rifle I want for about $1600 shipped.The only thing Im concerned with there is that it might be outlawed by the time I get it, and a $3200 rifle will actually just be a jacked up hard to find $1000 rifle. If that be the case, my best bet might be to assemble my own.

I thought all hope was lost, then I called my local gunshop and found out they had stripped lowers for $98 left.

I was shocked.

So shocked that I bought three of them. I'll turn them into something cool (three things cool) eventually. Stripped lowers are out there, you just have to track 'em down.

janitor, that is a sweet rifle, but i think JP still sells them for $2500 or so. It's not worth $3200 now, and probably never will be, even post ban, because after a ban, everyone will want rifles with bayo lugs and collapsible stocks and that sort of crap.

tell the gunstore they're FOS and you'll give them no more than MSRP. or better yet, call JP and buy direct.

After looking around, I think that rifle is $2500 without the Magpul stock upgrade and scope rings, which I think would add $350 or so. Still, if you do the math, it would be about $150 cheaper to go the factory direct route and let some impulsive sucker buy the one off the shelf.
