ALERT FROM JEWS FOR THE PRESERVATION OF FIREARMS OWNERSHIP
America's Aggressive Civil Rights Organization

April 21, 2006

JPFO ALERT: SWAT Magazine highlights "Boot" Campaign

We're delighted to announce that the current issue of SWAT
Magazine features an extensive and favorable article on
JPFO's "Boot the BATFE" campaign. You can view the article
itself in Adobe Acrobat format at
www.jpfo.org/SWAT_BATFE.pdf or better yet, pick up a copy
of SWAT from your local newsstand.

As you can see, JPFO is making great progress in getting
the word out about the BATFE. But we still need YOU to get
on board. Visit www.jpfo.org/bootbatfe.htm to find out
more about what we're doing, why we're doing it, and what
you can do to help. Let's really turn up the heat on this
dangerous organization!

Two additional items:

In a previous alert http://www.jpfo.org/alert20060411.htm ,
we stated that the BATFE had returned a firearm after
obliterating the manufacturer's serial number. That was
incorrect. In fact, the situation is even worse: the BATFE
tried (and failed) to coerce the manufacturer, Len Savage,
into committing a felony by directing him to remove the
serial number himself.

Secondly, _Small Arms Review_ has published an article in
their May 2006 issue that selectively highlights the CRS
report ( www.jpfo.org/ATFguntests.pdf ). While we applaud
the publicizing of this issue, we are somewhat concerned
with the presentation. Although the article quoted only a
small portion of the memo, it did not give readers the
JPFO website address where the full report can be
downloaded. In fact, the article avoids any mention of the
effort and research done by JPFO. This begs the question
of why _Small Arms Review_ is unwilling to mention the
Jewish civil rights organization that made the CRS report
possible.

Makes one wonder why Mr. Savage didn't set up a sting operation and cause the agents in question to be arrested and prosecuted for conspiring to break Federal law. If worried about retaliation, just post a copy of the SCOTUS Bivens decision.

Donation sent to JPFO. I know that I'm not the richest member of the board by a long shot, but I do make sure to support folks who do good work.

I don't do many regular donations, preferring to send "attaboy" donations for specific accomplishments by a group, and I always send a short email explaining what particular issue caused me to send a donation.

That's just my take on the issue, -MV

On the Len Savage/serial number issue the JFPO is completely wrong, and the ATF is correct. Anyone in the gun industry knows a number is required as part of the Serial Number. Also, Congress did exempt the federal government from the restrictions of the GCA and NFA, and the letter cites the portions of federal law which provide the exemption. Do a search on this forum and you can find plenty of posts where some members complain about that very exemption.

That's not entirely true.

Govt employees are most certainly subject to the Lautenberg Amendment

Yeah, you're right about the Lautenberg exception to the exemption, but for the most part government agencies (local and federal) are exempt from the GCA and NFA. As I said the ATF is right in that letter to Savage, and Savage and JPFO look pretty ridiculous in posturing the way they are over the letter.

Only the Federal Govt is exempt from the NFA actually.

Kinda surprising that state agencies are exempted from the GCA (largely) but not the NFA
