This whole issue is a slap in our face as Americans. I have hiked into the back country of a prominent National Park on several occasions while fishing. It is an eery feeling, being unarmed, and looking around and seeing some of the scum bags that go lurking around in the backcountry. Park Rangers in the backcountry patrolling to prevent crime? Yeah, right. Who is kidding whom?
Once, I took my wife along while I fished in an easy access area, just off a dirt road that was open to vehicular traffic. I was just over the bank from her while she stood on a rock by our car watching me fish. Two jerks in another car pulled up and started asking leading questions about why she was alone in the wilderness. When she pointed to me, they took off. I wasn't armed, because I was inside the park boundary. Somehow I felt really safe knowing no criminal activity takes place in National Parks because no one has guns there. R I G H T.........
