Just thought I'd remind everyone of the significance of today's date. If you have a Garand, Carbine, M1911A1, or Enfield, take a moment to think about the young soldiers who carried similiar weapons ashore during the invasion of France.

I usually try to make it to the range with my Garand on this day and fire a few rounds in their memory. I can't make it this year, but I'll be thinking of them all the same.

Amen! Thanks for the reminder. These good ole' boys deserve our respect today and everyday! When you go shoot next fire some extra rounds off for me!

Hard to believe that so much misery could be packed into such a short time. They went onshore on D-Day, and VE Day was "just" some ten months later.

I have my father's M1 Carbine from his time in France and Germany. Seriously a keeper.

My first and favorite Garand is dated Pre-Pearl Harbor (8/41). It could have been in any post PH battle of WWII -- Normandy, Guadalcanal. . . I wonder where that rifle was?

Many went ashore and many died this day.... One of my Masonic brothers was a Ranger Capt. He went ashore with 180 men June 6th, at the end of the day there were six of them left standing atop the cliffs and all were wounded. His take was- I just did my job, we weren't heroes... I told him I thought he was and they all were.

And in rememberance of them, I said my prayer this morning. Then I went out and bought, in no small part thanks to the freedom their sacrifice gave me, a brand new Made In the U.S.A. Ruger pistol.

I know the Lord has a special place in heaven for them.

I had a friend who went up the cliffs at Point du Hoc, he wouldn't go back and visit, said all he left there was alot of friends and bad memories.

Can anyone recommend a good book on the history of the 2nd Rangers ??
I'd like to learn more about my friend and the 2nd Rangers.

Barbarossa?
Yes. On June 22th, 1941, in about 4:00AM, German forces crossed Soviet border. There were many other subsequent dates, but this is the second most important date (first mots important for us Russikies) since September 9th, 1939, when WW2 actually has started
