Hey guys,

I just got back from touring a gun club (which we LOVED). They have a junior rimfire rifle league. That got me all excited, and now I'm looking at bolt .22s. I like the CZs and the Savages, but I can't choose any specific model. I also will need a scope. I'd like to be able to hit stuff at at least 100 yards.

Can anyone help me choose? I'm going to say the price is about $300-400 for a rifle/scope.

Thanks.

There is the CZ trainer which is about $240 and has nice iron sights but grooved for a scope too. Then there is the CZ 452 American, Varmint, LUX, FS etc. these will run you around $300 and up depending on what/where you buy. The CZ rifles are really accurate and for $16 you can put an Eric Brookes trigger kit in them and they will be a very sweet shooter. I prefer the American model but I hunt with my rifles too so that make a huge difference to me, the weight of a bull barrel is pleasant to carry around all day.

If your wanting to shoot 100 yards have you given the 17HMR a consideration? They are more expensive to shoot but not bad, $8 for a box of 50 and they are accurate.

The Savage rifles are great shooters and you can't take that away from them. They will not have the resale value like a CZ will though. Heck you can almost get all your money back out of a used CZ.

The trainer is the basic CZ 452. You get the adjustable trigger in all of the 452 series with the exception of the scout. The trainer has a longer barrel, a different stock and iron sights. The American is just the design of a more American style rifle. The have the sporter barrel and no sights. The varmint has the bull barrel and target style stock with the flat forearm. The LUX is basically the same as the trainer but with a walnut stock and nice bluing as where the trainer has the beech stock and satin bluing. The FS is the full stock or what is called mannlicher, it also has the iron sights and walnut stock.
