Junk bipods

It's like a quality tool in your workshop - it's a joy to pull out one day when you need it and find that it's just plain really nice quality to work with. My Caldwell was a piece of junk. When the neighbor didn't want it, it hit the trash can and I bought a Harris. Nope, doesn't get used much... but if/when I do use it, I know it's gonna work well.

Stay away from champion or Caldwell bipods ... Harris here I come
Been happy with UTG/Leapers Tactical OP bipod for several years - https://www.amazon.com/UTG-Tactical-Rubber-Center-Height/dp/B0035L35A8

It won 2017 Editor's choice - https://huntspot.com/best-bipod-reviews/

"UTG Tactical OP Bipod is absolutely the most popular bipod in the market ... Will UTG Tactical OP Bipod stand the test of time? We shout a big YES to this question. Why? The bipod is construed from heavy duty aluminum.

As such, it won’t disappoint you after many years of subjecting it to heavy use. The top platform of this bipod is made from steel. Another heavy duty material?

Yes, it is. The steel too, adds up to the high level of durability of the bipod."

Ok, I have to edit then. The bipod I have been using is the cheap UTG ones. Didn't know other people liked them, I just thought it was gun show junk worth trying. Good to know. I have one on my BCM Mk12 mod0 right now. My only complaint, it's a bit narrow. I fold up a side and lay the rifle down, when I walk away so it can't fall over like the OP's.

I thought OP broke the Champion bipod by pulling/pushing on it?
its a champion ... I go prone with the sitting model closed up and its sliding on the dirt so I pulled it back and pushed forward a little and snap. the legs broke clean off the plate that rocks side to side showing 4 small screws that pulled through and what looks like freaking super glue holding the screws and the large bolt for the pivot. there is a plate with the tension screw still connected to the rifle.

Isn't that called loading a bipod? It was junk from the beginning cause the tension screw hole was larger then the screw and wouldn't work so I had to use a larger screw. when prone i pushed forward slightly and it moved and then pulled it back and it snapped. Looked like super glue was holding it on with 4 small 1/8 inch screws that pulled right through the holes on the plate.

That video says that that forstock should be stiff. In 2015 I made a Mauser bedding block that went all the way forward to be part of the front Uncle Mike stud mount [for the bipod].
That 6.5-06 has been my best long range rifle to date, it keeps them in the kill zone at 600 yards. [That is good for me, but is not internet impressive].

Uhh digging holes is a little overboard haha!
Definitely not paramount. And he was loading it way too much
I was looking for a video quickly before I did a project for my wife and that's what I found. :D

Yes, I do not dig holes and I load less than that. I usually push forward until I feel resistance. Here's another video that covers "Forward Load" at 1:20 minute mark

I can't believe no one has said it yet but , that is the second cutest little girl ever! You must be a very proud daddy, Loonwulf. Already following in Daddy bears footsteps. 8)
Thanks D-H, Yeah she makes me grin ear to ear. She can already break more stuff than i could when i was 10. I had to take my tripod down before she took it apart. Just gotta wait a few more years and i hope to have her doing more shooting, on our shooting trips.

I like the Javelin bipod and LOVE the Javelin tripod from Spartan for hunting rifles. Their stuff is incredibly light and the tripod converts to a bipod, shooting sticks or monopod with two trekking poles. Really slick stuff.

I made a pig trough to fit on a camera tri pod. It works well if I can get my back up against something like the truck tire. A bipod is REALLY USING THE ELBOWS.... the tripod does not get elbows on the ground.

So far I've had great luck with the Caldwell bi-pod but then again I've only used the 9" out here in the desert, that is about the only one you need shooting prone. I use mine on my AR-15's as well as my .243, I generally don't put that much pressure forward as I'm generally pulling the rifle into my shoulder. Some time ago I purchased for $25.00 otd a UTG 10.6" "Shooters BIPOD" that is made completely of steel, and is quite heavy, I've got no idea what I'm going to mount it on due to the weight, but "it was such a deal I couldn't turn it down".

A couple things arrived from China today.
1) 1000 grit / 300 grit diamond stone for $43 that appears to be the same thing as $105 stone.
2) Atlas clone for $44 that appears to be different from the $244 bipod

The clone's legs tilt and extend more easily.
The Atlas pan & tilt is more continuous
The clone has sharp corners that need deburring. Alas $224 2011 $44 XAegis 7-15-2017.jpg

That actually sounds like the stone my knife snob buddy grudgingly suggested i get. Im currious about that atlas knock of, as ill be buying a couple pods when i can afford to and had considered those.

There are a lot of diamond hone videos, but the one that got ME was this one. I bought all the stuff in his links.
The same hone also from Amazon is less than half price, but it comes on a slow boat from China.

The end mills from banggood are a real bargain. I don't know how they pay the postage for so cheap.

I ordered (20) Chinese riflescopes this week for $20 each delivered. All those beat up old single shot bolt action 22s I got at gunshows over the years for $50 are going to get scopes.
