Soooo.... took my oldest 2 and youngest 1 out to rid ourselves of the last of Halloween today, a coworker met me with his girl's kids (all 3 are learning, calling him a learning enthusiast). My lil 1 only missed 2x (some shots were at a gourd not shown but otherwise pictured far right in the exit hole pics, far left in the entrance hole (cricket, .36 hp fed bulk box), straight line through the middle and missing top is my 14 y/o again with his trusty .22-250 (handload 55 vmax middle upper end speed with benchmark), he's had an 8" growth spurt since last shooting so scope needs re zeroed, but when he had it dialed in I told him to lift the top and he did exactly that! Smiley face was the oldest with my ar15, blackhound genesis 1-4 ffp, factory hornady 55gr sp bulk pack, 1st round was slightly low, then she just started hammering away. On the smiley face, there's a hole where I tried lifting the top but my cva .223 40 gr vmx benchmark combo just said this is as far as I go (perfect for my uses) we started with quite a few mini pumpkins but my .223 and the .22-250 disintegrated them (some pieces MAY be visible, most are not). Overall, it was a good time and my friend decided that he misjudged the -250 years ago and now MUST have one! Extra holes on targets not mentioned were from the .22lr and .17hmr with the kids he brought.

Sounds like a fun day. :)
It reminds me of a time a friend of mine and his 8 year old son met up to do pretty much the same thing out in the desert. My daughter wasn’t interested in going. I tried to coax her with the option of shooting cans of water with CCI Stingers, but she was more interested in going to her friend’s house.
Anyway, we got out there and blew holes in a bunch of pumpkins. I told my buddy about my daughter and the offer I made and he got a great idea.
He filled one of the remaining pumpkins with water and shot it with a hollow point 45-70 round. Now that was cool!
It’s too bad we didn’t have more whole pumpkins. 😁

When my son was little, he did not want give up his first Halloween Jack'o'Lantern.
After a few days it began to decay to his dismay. So I told him it was time to put poor old Jack out of his misery, like a lamed horse. The decent thing to do.
We took it to the old home place in the country, loaded it with odds and ends of old 4th July fireworks,, a film can of black powder with an 8 inch fuse, squirted the inside with lighter fluid, lit the fuse and backed off.
Ole Halloween Jack got a 4th of July send off.
It became a post-Halloween tradition for the next few years. (Except a few years when the field would be too dry.)
