Just a little more news bias.

I'm sitting here watching CNN coverage of THE TURNPIKE KILLINGS(trademark).

They said that according to invesigators, the shell casings found at the scene suggest that the murder weapon may have been a semi-automatic! DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNN!

They never actually SAY that semi autos are evil but they want the viewer to draw that conclusion.

Must be election time.

Is there a "mystic" attached to "semi-automatic"? Does it sound more nasty than "handgun?" To the average Joe or Joan..probably so. Sem-automatic..ohhh! Scary!

"They never actually SAY that semi autos are evil but they want the viewer to draw that conclusion." Think the newscast would have mentioned the possibility of the casings having come from a "revolver"? If CNN were using all available info to enhance their story and make it more informative..maybe so.

If CNN, in fact, has an "anti" agenda.. than there's more meat, more grist for the mill, to include the fact that the casings may have come from a "semi-automatic."

It would be interesting to find out. With a story like this, any aspect of it is news: time of day, type of weapon, etc. Unfortunatly, it involves guns, and as the ArchDuke so correctly points out..it is an election year.

Beretta's contract with the government ends in '07. S&W among others will be going after that baby like mad dogs in a meat market. It's valued at $300 million give or take. Most gun companies (have you followed S&W's stock?) are doing very well and would be wise to contribute some of their profit to the NRA and other Pro 2nd entities. It would go a long way to Educating The Public and help remove the "mystic" that surrounds "semi-auto" to the point that irresponsible journalists couldn't use the phrase as a tool to turn the public against the things we love.. and a right we all have.

The thing that gets me is that almost any handgun the killer could have used is semiautomatic. I know that mechanically a revolver is not but in effect, it is. Every time to pull the trigger, a bullet is fired. Why aren't revolvers as evil as auto-loaders?

I know this complaint has brought up probably millions of times before. Sorry hahaha

Cases found at the scene

Are almost ALWAYS from a semi automatic. Very seldom does a criminal using a revolver dump his empties (and reload) at the scene. It has happened, but the odds against it are long.

Police tell the news media that the cases MAY have come from a semi auto, to give the news something more to report, and to make themselves look good. The news reports it, (often with emphasis), to give something more than just the bare bones of the shooting, and (often) to try and advance their anti-gun bias.

If they reported "9mm shel cases" were found at the scene, most of us would assume they came from a semi auto. Just as if they reported .357 Magnum cases, we would assume a revolver. The news just adds the "semi automatic" for filler. Kind of like "color" reporting at a sporting event. But the way they deliver the phrase "semi automatic" is often emphasised to infer that this type of gun is somehow more evil than other types of evil guns.

I think because of the phrase "Semi Automatic Assault Weapon/Rifle", the term semi automatic is now automatically included as "evil" in the lexicon of the Left leaning Liberal Media. And they are out to convince the general public that their point of view is reality. Which, of course, it isn't.
