I inherited my grandfather's single shot H&R 410 shotgun when he passed away back in the 60's. I also got the two boxes of shells with it. I can remember this gun always stood in the corner by the back door even when I was a little kid. He used it for the skunks that tried to get his laying hens. It became my gopher gun and today I got one with it using one of those old paper shells. I know the ammo received no special treatment from him and the gun has always stood in the corner by my back door where it is handy and the shells sit on top of a deep freeze on the other side of the door after it became mine. Ammo is pretty durable, even cardboard shotgun shells, if just kept dry. By the way, the old gun still looks about new. No rust, no scratches, no worn blueing.
