I took my G36 in to the shop today to have it sent back to Glock. If you look at the barrel from the feed ramp side there is a huge chip in the top corner where there is supposed to be an edge. It is quite large so I think it is causing me problems. Anyways.....my dealer had a CZ/Dan Wesson .45 on the shelf. Here it is: http://www.cz-usa.com/product_detail.php?id=66. I picked it up for $850. It feels fantastic in my hand and it appears to be really balanced. I can't wait to shoot it!!

I am sorry but a stock photo will not do...

Dan Wesson was good before CZ and now it is a superior product. My son has a Pointman that has never hiccuped with Ball ammo and shoots 230 grain Golden Sabre to point of aim at 15 years.

Superior to what? Pre-CZ Dan Wessons? Am I the only owner of a pre-CZ Dan Wesson 1911 (Patriot) who takes issue with that statement? :uhoh: :neener:  :D

I am going to pick it up in about 1/2 hour and I will take some pics! Frandy, mine say Patriot on the side. What does that mean?

Yes, it is a Bobtail Commander. I wish I could go to the range now but it is cold here in NH and it will be dark soon!:cuss: :cuss: The one thing I hate about winter is that it gets dark way too early! Here are pics.......

Thanks for the compliments. My local gun shop just became an official Kimber dealer, but I did not really care for his Kimber selection. Not to say that they aren't nice .45's, but the only ones he had which I liked were over $1,000, and that was too much money for me. I really hope to get to the range tomorrow, but it depends on how windy it is.

At the $800 price mark it is hard to beat the Dan Wessons.

How is the fit and finish on yours. Mine was incredible for a production gun.

The only thing I don't like about them is the mags. They are not great. I replaced mine with wilson combats. I didn't have any issues with the factory mags but I thought they were cheap feeling.

The fit is tight and the finish it bright!!:what: :what: It is probably the nicest handgun I have ever purchased, as well as the most expensive. As far as the mags go, they seem to be good quality. I am used to polymer semi-autos so I really can't compare them to much else. Man I want to go shooting so bad it hurts. Argh....

I have a blued Dan Wesson Pointman 7. So far as I can tell every gun magazine/reference book I have read say they don't exist in blued, only in stainless. Mine is very accurate and feeds 200 gr SWC very well. Congrats on the new purchase.

I have the DW CBOB Patriot in .45 ACP. It is by far my favorite gun. My next favorite in line is my DW 15-VH2 pack in .357 mag. I am a happy man! You will love yours...

I've had one for about a month now - was fantastic for the first 692 rounds. Now, we're fine tuning  Still love the gun tho :D

Bob Serva bought the faultering Dan Wesson Firearms Co. in the mid nineties and then turned it into a very high quality 1911 handgun producer. CZ bought him out a couple of years ago. Their 1911's are second to none IMO of the production producers. I have a gorgeous blued Pointman 1 made in 2000 and it has never hicupped with high quality mags in it and is a tack driver as yours will be I'm sure. Congrats on your purchase.

It sounds like I made a good choice. I am very impressed with the quality of the gun and it feels really "tight" as opposed to some of the other 1911 style semi-autos I have held.

They come TIGHT from the factory.

Make the sure the gun is empty, please.

Then hand cycle the slide about 100 times. After that the
slide should go into battery by itself when using the sling shot method.

Should your already do that, then you are good to go.

My CBOB .45 has been wonderful. One ftf with a oversized reload. and one bobble with my limpwristing and double tap ammo.

Hope yours works as well or better for you.

BTW: I'm using DW and Ed Brown mags. EB stainless for the bushing also.

Well, pre-CZ, the Patriot was a match-grade flagship 1911 .45. Don't know what "Patriot" means now.

For a description of the various DWs, take this link and scroll down that page:

I'm hooked on bobtail ! I got mine about a month ago too, fitted some very attractive Fusion Firearms slim grips and ended up with by far the most comfortable and shootable 1911 I've ever tried. I'm also wayyyyyy impressed with the quality of fit and finish on the DW, it seems consistantly better than that I've found on the "other" 1911 brands. (I'm not a hater of those brands, i own several of 'em)
oh, i switched out the original Greider 3 hole trigger for a solid Grieder, and added EGWs thick bushing and matching plug, not for any functional benefit, just, I'm afraid, for looks....

here's a couple of pics before I added the slim grips...

I predict that you will LOVE the Bobtail. I have two, a CZ and a Smith & Wesson Scandium Commander. The Bobtail is a quantum improvement to the 1911. It conceals better (The point of the grip is the hardest to conceal, the Bobtail doesn't have one), feels better and shoots better. The Bobtail just naturally fits the curved contour of your hand and the point of the grip doesn't dig into the heel of your palm.
