Dan Wesson and CZ??

CZ says they will have DW revolvers back in production by the end of the year. We'll see..... If they REALLY want to make friends and influence people, they could reintroduce the DW CCO in 10mm..... At least that would make ME happy!

I've never looked into Dan Wesson 1911s. Do they have a reputation for being problematic? A fellow next to me was shooting one at the range last Sunday, and his rear sight came loose, but that's no big thing. He shot well over 100 rounds without any feed problems and it seemed a pretty accurate gun.

If CZ built a 1911, it would be one I would consider. I'm not crazy about the trigger in my 75B, but it's an extremely well-built, high-quality weapon. I suspect a CZ-built 1911 would be one of the most reliable on the market.

Dan Wesson 1911 clones

I've heard pretty good things about the Dan Wesson 1911 clones. The ones I've seen look good. (Never actually handled one.)

Their one bad point is they seem to have pushed the DW revolvers onto the back burner.

"Hello Kev,
Enclosed you will find the one page flyer for the Dan Wesson pistols that are currently available.
These will be mailed to our customer base and will be attached to every shipment that leaves our warehouse to get the word out that Dan Wesson is now associated with CZ-USA.
When we did the questionnaire last year, there was a substantial interest in 10mm handguns. Well they are now available in the Dan Wesson Line.
I was wondering if you can mass mail the members of the forum that CZ-USA has acquired Dan Wesson and that these are the two models that we are coming out.
We will be adding revolvers before too long and before the end of this year we will have Dan Wesson as our premier pistol line.
Take care and thank you for your help with the CZ forum.
Alice Poluchova"

You might want to check the 1911 forum about Dan Wesson 1911s. People who have them are usually VERY happy:

I own one of DW's cheapest 1911s, and it is excellent. Given how nice my low-end DW is, I have always longed to buy one of their really nice 1911s. But now that they have new management... :(

I also know a man who absolutely loves his DW 1911 and revolvers.

Pray tell, did you wonder how or why they have new management? CZ-USA has excellent mangement, and has made CZ-USA/CZ-UB a sucess story across the USA. Now, couple thier expertise with Dan Wessons solid history and fine firearms, and you can only have a winning combination...Just give it a little time, and see how it goes, before you jump to conclusions, OK?

Hey, I was clear and upfront about my opinion being entirely non-rational. I'm not trying to rag on CZ or anything like that. I'm sure CZ makes a fine product.

Mostly I'm just pissed that I didn't buy that Dan Wesson 10mm 1911 back when I had the chance. Maybe after the dust settles CZ will see fit to put that model back into production. Or maybe not. Either way I'm decidedly unhappy about this new arrangement. And no amount of logic, reasoning or common sense will make me feel otherwise. :neener:

Headless, I'm sorry to throw some reason at ya, but did you happen to read jazurell's post?

Regarding "Dan Wessons solid history"

Which Dan Wesson company?

The following are quoted from www.notpurfect.com/main/dwrev.htm

"Unfortunately the company has undergone many changes including the death of it's founder, in 1978, and the death of Karl Lewis. It's financial fortunes have also risen and fallen. The company went under in 1989, but was brought back on line, in 1990. The new company was set up in Palmer MA, by Dan Wesson's son Seth, but was only able to stay in business for four years. By this time, the tooling, and machines were getting old and worn, the quality was going down, and the demand was slackened by the unpredictability of production, and uncertainty as to the longevity of the company. Many who had heard of the closing of the Monsoon plant, were unaware that the company was back."

"The new Dan Wesson Company began production in 1997."

And now CZ-USA. More power to them for taking on the challenge.

Yup, I did. CZ claims that they think there might be enough interest in 10mm to someday put DW's 10mm back into production. I hope they're serious. Until then I'll continue to kick myself for not buying that gun when I could have. Oh well...

Lighten up folks. I'm just venting, and only doing it half-heartedly at that. I don't have anything against CZ, and I realize that this new deal is probably a good thing. Don't take it personally if I say something you don't like.

Man, you people would make terrible drinking buddies. Can't you just let me grieve and be miserable for a while?

Incidentally, the 10mm shown on the CZ website is a 'Pointman'. That model is a bit different from the 'Razorback' that DW used to make which I've been lusting after. So far as I can tell, the gun I want is dead and gone. And trust me, I've scoured the CZ site, press releases, and a number of other sources hoping to find some sort of indication that my chances of buying the gun I want aren't entirely gone.

Sorry, Headless. You didn't say before that you wanted the Razorback. Guess I'd be disappointed too. You're right - I'd make a terrible drinking buddy. I can barely make it through a single beer anyway, before I get tired of it. Grieve away, brother. I'm sorry for your loss.
