What's the point of sending an infantryman to Ft S
Earlier in the week I was scouring the desolate plains of SW Oklahoma in search of a good gun shop. I found Murf's in Duncan. It was like an oasis in the desert. While looking at their wares (They have a good selection) the guy behind the counter says that he just got a pistol back in from a guy who tried to buy it with a forged check. It was a Kimber Raptor II with internal ejector. It had maybe 50 rounds through it. I'm not a flashy guy, I'm more concerned with function and utility than with looks. I'm also wary of "production custom" guns. Usually, each pistol produced doesn't get that extra little bit of TLC that makes a custom gun run smoothly. Then he told me the price: $899. "SOLD!" says I.

I got it home, broke it apart and was very impressed indeed with the fit and finish of each part. Of particular note was the quality of the bluing on the flat of the slide and frame. Yesterday, I took it to the range and ran ~150 rounds of Remmy UMC 230gr Ball through it. For comparision's sake I brought along my Springer GI. The Kimber was boring, after the first couple of nervous mags (I had read on this and other boards about Kimber's QC.) This Kimber is good, scary good, even. POA was POI out to 25 yds. It cleaned it's plate - eating everything it was fed. The trigger on it is nothing short of excellent. The sights were dead on. Bottom line: It was a joy to shoot. I'm even beginning to warm up to the scale thingys that decorate the pistol.
