Just bought an FNAR Heavy Barrel. I went to the local gunshop after an awesome day at the range. It was 8 degrees, snow was a sparklin', gun was singing, toes were warm, targets were destroyed. After looking at some nice 1911s I mentioned I was in the market for a .308. After witnessing the amazing accuracy of my AR I was thinking AR-10. The salesman, rightgeous guy, said hold on I got something in the back you might like. He brings out a beautiful FN semi .308 and I said I'll take it before I even touched it. So heavy, so nice, so..........

Nobody is going to believe you until you post a pic of it;)

I'm very curious about these rifles and would love to try one out sometime. My local gun shop has had two of them in but the both were out the door within hours so I have yet to even hold one.

I've had one on my maybe list and when it fell in my lap it became an ok I'm an owner list. Hope I did well, I'll post pics as soon as I can. Suprised at how heavy those heavy barrels really are! Glad to have something bigger than my .223. I hear you, this one never made it onto the shop floor.

ARLover - Did you get the heavy barrel version? <Edit - I just noticed you bought the heavy version>

I just bought one online and should receive it sometime this week. I ordered the light barrel as they were out of stock on the heavy. I also ordered a couple of spare magazines for it. I am anxciously awaiting it's arrival!

Glad to hear others are buying them. I haven't shot mine, waiting to get a .308 Otis cleaning kit so I can do a five shot break-in. It seems really cool though and one reviewer claims .45 moa with Federal Gold Medal. Boy does it feel good in the hands! As for looks I imagine you love it or hate it, I love it! Hope it's a success.

Question for ARLover?

ARLover, you say "waiting to get a .308 Otis cleaning kit so I can do a five shot break-in". I haven't heard of such a procedure nor the kit. Would you care to teach us? Any special ammo used for the break-in? Or is this procedure secret sauce for competitive marksmanship?

Anyway, I am trying to buy an FNAR. At one time, I had money down on three at three separate dealers. At this point, I'd accept either the HB or LB. In favor of the LB, one reviewer,

http://www.fnhusa1.com/PDF/reviews/0810FNARshotgunnews.pdf

, said "Regarding weight, even with its fluting, the heavy barrel model is on the porky side. While muzzle heavy, it proved very stable on the bipod or off bags. The lighter barrel model proved much handier, yet still sufficiently heavy to be stable enough for its intended mission."

What's your take on this choice?
