You guys might remember me from awhile back with my beautiful Ruger GSR.

KFiU3Ium.jpg

My original Ruger GSR thread sorry the pictures arent working anymore.

Well, I couldnt help myself and saw a deal and purchased a mauser. I am pretty excited, but know almost nothing about the rifles and currently hitting up google and youtube to learn about it.

This is what I know:

1) Rifle's numerically serialized parts are matching. (RECEIVER, BOLT, STOCK and FLOORPLATE)
2) It should be in great condition
3) I probably overpaid (between 400-500 with FFL transfer included)

I figured I dont own a surplus rifle yet, and who isnt infatuated with mausers?

Anyone mind dosing me with some knowledge about this purchase that I know was impulsive? Anyone else own one? What do you think?

How do the iron sights fair?

Know any websites to purchase ammo? CTD doesnt have alot of options.

Segm3nt......uhhhh....nice, but we need to WHICH Mauser you got. All Mausers are not created equal!! I am assuming you got one of the Yugo Mausers that seem to be all over the place. If you got one of those, I have found that they are all over the map, as far as value. Some have worn bores, stamped parts and are missing the cleaning rod and front sight hood. I got lucky, mine has the laminated stock, a new barrel, all milled parts, the cleaning rod and the front sight cover are all present.

A pic or two would help.

Did you read the thread title? He got an M48.

OP, if you need ammo that's packed on stripper clips, high quality stuff, let me know. I've got some I'd be willing to let go for a good price since I sold my Mauser a while back.

Cooldill, I'd like that very much actually. Why did you sell the Mauser? What kind of ammo? Corrosive?

I picked up an M48 a few weeks ago. Just got to shoot it about a week ago. LOVE it. It kicks a bit, but the wider butt-plate makes it a non factor.

I like the sights on mine a lot, and was very happy with accuracy. Mine is the M48BO, so I'm not sure if the sights are the same.

I really do like my M48, and am confident it will keep a spot very high on my go-to guns list for whenever I hit the range. (My range is 4,000 sq miles of desert mountains and valleys, but we call it "the range")

Thanks for the reply turftech1, I'll be sure to post pics and updates when I recieve, the rifle. I hope I'm not disappointed. I hope its acceptable at the ffl.

From what I've read, it's non-corrosive. It is Romanian 150 grain ball ammo and it is essentially brand new and is of great quality. I think I've got 200 rounds or so of it, and would be willing to let it go for $100 including all the stripper clips they come on.

M48 is awesome rifle and you will never disappointed. The only problem you might encounter on a bad one is windage way off . my first one shot 9 inches high and 12 inches to the right and not enough room to move the front sight . I put Mojo sight on and problem solved. Watch out for crack stock in pistol grip and trigger area. This might cause by combination of hot surplus ammo, slightly loose inletting job and recoil lug move under recoil. The quick fix is to glass bedding the stock. The surplus ammo was cheaper than 7.62x39 ten years ago and the rifle cost $179.99 at local Big 5 ten years ago so my friends and I shot a heck out of our M48 and we cracked five stocks along the way but I learn how to fix the crack and put them back in action. Shoot them less now can't take 8 mm pounding like 10 years ago.

Yes, I'm very interested, I'll pm you. Though 150gr? That's really light isn't it?

SGAmmo seems to offer fair prices and on occasion will have several options to choose from.

Both my M48s like the surplus "M75 sniper" ammunition that can still be had at a fair price.

M48s are among the best Mausers made. I have several unissued rifles. The actions are smooth and the rifles are accurate. An unissued rifle typically sells for $350 to $400 around here. These rifles are some of my best shooters.
Most of the M48s have matching numbers and a lot of them have lined out magazines. I have seen a few with a poorly stamped crest but most are clean and crisp. I recently sold a used rifle with a frosty bore for $250.

Mojo sights can be very nice if you don't like the original irons...which many people don't. I never shot old school iron sights until I bought an old mauser and I had a real tough time with them.

Thanks for the tip, I was actually thinking of the M76 scope with rings from zrak.
