I was all set to buy this gun today...

operator11kk.jpg

I sold my other 1911 for $745 yesterday. And, I thought I would get this Springfield Operator. But for $1300, I better love the hell out of it.

But, I didn't like the sights. They have a small tritium insert, but in daylight, it is hard to see. There is no white circle around them, and I found the front sight very hard to see. At the range, I won't be shooting in the dark, so the tritium isn't of much help.

I was disappointed, but I can't spend that much for something that I'm not super crazy about... Oh well... Now to find something else I want... :p

I'm glad you didn't spend your money on something that you weren't in love with.

Have you thought about looking at those Kimber TLEs with the rail? It's a less obtrusive rail and they are supposed to be very fine pistols. Probably a healthy chuck less than the springfield.

Bad review of the Kimber TLE II w/ rail

This is a cheesy review that popped up after a search with some not great pictures, but sadly it's the best I could find.

Don't worry...something else will pop up and call your name. Way to show restraint on something you weren't sure of liking!!

:D :D

Well, I saw that Kimber too. But, what I did like about the Springfield rail was that because it was so squared off, you wouldn't get any wear like you would on the dustcover of a regular 1911 (I had a regular stainless Springfield years ago, and it did this). It was the sights that thru me off from buying this gun.

I love the bright white sights on the S&W 1911s. They only had a Scandium commander sized gun in stock from Smith and Wesson, though. I think I may go to Houston and look at what a stanard stainless S&W 1911 looks like, and then I'll have the local shop order me one for about $65 less.

I don't really care for the white dot novaks that Springfield uses on their other guns. I guess I'm spoiled by my 2 Berettas and my Glock 26. The dots on the sights are big and bright.

the sights are all dovetailed, NBD to change them out, if you talk to the dealer, for his mark up on that gun he might cut you a nice deal on changing to what you like

I have done that before. i like wilson sights. but meprolights sound like the ones you want. check them out

Pete, this dealer has fair prices, but they won't wheel and deal on anything. For that much $, I don't feel like I needa change anything and add more money. I'll probably find a less expensive 1911...

Take a look at the Kimber Warrior or Sig GSR if you need a rail. Like the others have said its easy to switch out the sights but if you don't want to do it I'm not gonna try and twist your arm.

Well, if it was a $600 or $700, I could see changing out the sights. For $1400 w/ tax, I don't wanna have to do anything.

Thanks for the advice, though...
