Got to shoot a friends brand new 3rd gen G21 today. JMB, forgive me, but I have to get me A G21. It was the softest shooting 45 I have ever shot. Accurate, grip was not as big as some internet rumors say.

I just have one question before I go to my dealer and order one. This G21's blowing up due to less than great chamber support in the factory barrel. Is this a real issue, or more internet hype.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think it will be an issue at all. The .45ACP is inherently a low pressure round and the G21 is definitely built to handle it in any factory loading out there.

I have a 21 and it has become one of my favorite handguns. It also gets along just fine with the 1911.

To answer your question, It is internet hype.

Yes, there was some police dept that reported failures with their 21's. There were a lot of problems concerning 21s with the dept. I don't know any details about it but someone will be along any moment to tell you all about it. And how Glocks are ugly, plastic, and the root of all evil, not to mention blowing up if you look at them wrong.

If glocks were Ka-booming at the rate you were led to believe on the internet, do you think anyone would be using them?

There are a LOT of glocks in use in the world today. The reported failures are probably statistically the same for any other handgun.

BTW, the chamber on a standard 1911 is not fully supported either.

Since you already know the 21 fits you, there is nothing left to do but open your wallet.

Welcome to the dark side. :)

The 21 rental I had did shoot very soft, and was accurate. I hate the finger groves though, if the top one doesn't pinch your finger your lucky :)

Is the G21 the "full-size", "compact" (that is, midsized), or "subcompact" version? I have a G19 (compact) 9x19mm, and love the fit, finish, weight, balance, and feel to it.

I've been looking at .45 ACP pistols, and have been considering either the Springfield Armory 1911 Mil-Spec (can't afford the riced-out Kimbers or anything) or a Glock, as I know they fit me perfectly already.

The full-sized ones are a bit big for me, and I'd prefer to get the mid-sized one if they have it.

heypete,
The G21 is the fullsize in 45ACP. Then you have the G30 which is the compact version on the 21. But the grip "girth", if you will, is the same.

Then you have the G36. This is the compact "single stack" version. Grip is slimmer and may fit you much getter.

It is a shame Glock refuses to make a single stack version of the 21. But if they did that then there would not be any use for the 45GAP.

the G21 is Full Size (+), its bigger than the 17 IIRC

The only .45 option in G19 size is the 45GAP, G38, although its thicker in the slide than the 19

edit- crap, got beat to the punch

I have a Glock 20 which is the same frame just chambered in 10mm Auto. My brother has a Springfield MilSpec. When you take the barrels out and look at them, you can plainly see that the Glock supports about as much of the case as most 1911s. Plus, the barrel on the Glock is made of some pretty high quality steel. A Glock 30 and a Glock 21 are both on my list as well.

Good For You

KBR,

I've had a second generation G21 for several years and consider it one of the finest in my modest collection. I'm glad you've found a model that you enjoy so much.

I've got a Glock 30 too, that's my carry gun. My G21 is my home defense piece. Both have grips that are large, but I've never found them uncomfortable. Both shoot 'soft' and accurately with 230 FMJ/HP.

To answer your question, the internet rumor mill has always had it out for Glocks. There's no prolific design flaw. So go buy one and have a blast.

John
