Just finished a hog hunt

90+% of the hogs I've killed were with .30-30's. 170 gr Remy corlokd. Most were ear/neck shots, nearly all stayed within 10 yards of the shot, most of those dropped in their tracks. The majority of the hogs I made marginal shots on (read gut shot) still went down and stayed down. The only run-offs that I can recall were boiler-room shots, and I can remember maybe three or four like that out of 50 or so killed. I've actually been surprised that they seem to be more fragile than the whitetail on our place, and far less likely to run-off.

Now, the pigs on my place were a little smaller, probably averaging 80-100 lbs or so, and we are pretty disciplined to give them time to expire before approaching them. I'm sure several would have bounded if we walked up on them when they still had breath.
