Well, I just spent this last weekend taking the CCW course here in Dayton, OH, and i'm pretty happy with the results. The course was taught by PPC at the Greene Co. Fish & Game assn.. The best part of the course was that it only cost $125 ($100 for GCFG members) - but I felt the course was not cheap in any other way, the instructor clearly knew his stuff and made sure we knew it too.
The other nice thing about the course was that it was all in two days - Saturday was 10 hrs of class time (+1 lunch), which was kind of rough, but not too bad. Even though I knew about 90% of what was taught, it was still very interesting and I wasn't really ever bored. I only got a 97 on the written exam, but I blew through it in about 7 minutes, so I'll chalk those missing points up to haste
Sunday was 2.5 hrs of range time, practicing practical techniques. This was definitely the funnest part of the training The shooting exam consisted of several shots from 1, 5, and 7 yards, shooting from the hip, draw & fire, headshots, double-taps, weak/strong hand, position change, tactical reloads, etc.
The interesting thing about the class of ~30 ppl was that I was definitely the youngest one there - I'm 24, and I'd say the majority of the class were a bunch of old coots in their upper 40s & 50s Unfortunately, there no young, single, attractive women there. Maybe i'll just have to take the course again
Anyhoo, to sum up:
Price: great!
Schedule: great!
Cirriculum: great!
Instructor: great!
